Topical Guide:
Recorded Sound

There are numerous audio formats in the collections of University Archives. These formats include magnetic tape (e.g., 1/4-inch reel-to-reel; 1/8-inch cassette; micro-cassette; 35mm), disc (e.g., phonodiscs of various speeds, including 'acetate' or 'instantaneous' discs), and optical (e.g., compact disc; cd-recordable).
Due to the play-back equipment necessary to reproduce sound from some of these formats, not all audio recordings held by University Archives can be played back in-house. University Archives will attempt to faciliate access to recordings in the collections as much as possible.

Note to Researchers: The University of Missouri-Columbia campus Record Groups below are denoted by a 'C' prefix (such as C:1/25/2). University of Missouri System-Wide and Central Administration Record Groups contain a 'UW' prefix (as in UW:4/0/2).
