Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office relating to the Office of Vice President for Research. Included are correspondence, memoranda, handwritten notes, printed research reports, work sheets, brochures, news releases, phonograph records, questionnaires, manuscripts, research proposals, applications for research grants, consulting reports, surveys, and survey results. Subjects include research project reporting guidelines, regulations for experimentation with humans and animals, radiation safety, the UM-System Research Reactor, the Atomic Energy Commission, research administration and evaluation, legislative hearings, professional organizations, the UM-System Weldon Spring property, LSD experimentation, military sponsorship of malaria research, the UM-System computer network, the Water Resources Research Center, the Environmental Trace Substances Research Center, Sinclair Research Farm, university policies on patents and copyrights, Graduate-Deans meetings, "Lead Belt" research, budget matters, the Solar Research Institute, institutional review boards, and indirect costs recovery. Additional records in this Sub-Group pertain to units overseen by the Office of the Vice President, including the Spinal Cord Injury Research Program, the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Program, the University of Missouri Research Board, and the Office of Intellectual Properties.

This Series holds records of the University of Missouri Office of Vice President for Research (1968-1983). The bulk of this material was created or received by Assistant to the Vice President for Research, Paul Keenan. Included are correspondence, questionnaires, published articles, unpublished manuscripts, research proposals, applications for research grants, consulting reports, surveys, and survey results. Topics include research project reporting guidelines, regulations for experimentation with humans and animals, radiation safety, the UM-System Research Reactor, the UM-System computer network, water resources, Sinclair Research Farm, University policies on patents and copyrights, and meetings of the Graduate Deans.

This Series holds records of the University of Missouri Office of Vice President for Research (1973). Included are a two-record set of 33 rpm phonograph recordings produced in 1973 that contains 16 episodes of the UM-System Water Resources Research Center radio program, "On The Water-Front."

Series 4. - UW:4/27/6
This Series holds research publications produced by or for the University of Missouri Office of Vice President for Research (1964-1968). Included are the University of Missouri Research Newsletter, the University of Missouri Bulletin (reporting current research at all four UM-System campuses), a booklet entitled Sinclair Comparative Medicine Research Farm for Studies of Chronic Diseases and Aging, a 1967 summary report of "University Wide Research," a 1968 manual entitled, Policies and Procedures for Research, and a 1969 manual entitled, Sponsored Research Policy.

This Series holds records of the University of Missouri Office of Vice President for Research. Included are administrative records pertaining to the Institutional Review Board and its evaluations of UM-System practices in regard to human subject research.

Series 6. - UW:4/27/5 (A81-12)
This Series holds records of the University of Missouri Office of Vice President for Research (1965-1976). Included in the Series are copies of five annual program reports from the UM-System Water Resources Research Center. The Series holds reports from the following years: 1965, 1969, 1972, 1973, and 1976. The reports were prepared by the Center for submission to the Department of the Interior's Office of Water Research. The Series also includes a report titled "Research Projects of the Water Resources Research Center", (1968).

Series 7. - UW:4/27/8 (A20-27)
This Series contains administrative and other records created and received in the University of Missouri's Office of the Vice President for Research and its successor, the Office for Research and Economic Development, (1987-2016). The records consist of the following types and topics: the Spinal Cord Injury Research Program, the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Program, the University of Missouri Research Board, the Office of Intellectual Properties, and a partnership with the Missouri Soybean Association. A number of the records originate from the period Mike Nichols was Vice President.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files.
