This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office pertaining to the UM-System Research Reactor (MURR). Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence, general administrative records, reports from the Argonne National Laboratory, MURR annual reports, staff publications, American Nuclear Society (ANS) Reactor Operations Division newsletters, MURR personnel records, ANS committee records, MURR design and construction records, technical specifications, ANS officer election ballots, ANS Reactor Operations Division survey results, pre-operational test procedures, hazard reports (with addenda), and reports concerning "anticipated transients without scram." Correspondence topics include Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) licensing, AEC inspections, MURR construction, MURR administration, MURR-related UM-System committees, interdepartmental cooperation, planning for a nuclear education program, American Nuclear Society Conferences, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) conferences, ASTM committees, MURR contracts with Gamma Industries, legislative requests for MURR funding, contracts with Nuclear Medicine Incorporated (NMI), and the Ford Research Reactor and Phoenix Lab.

Historical Note:
The Research Reactor transferred from UM-System to MU in 1989. Records received from the Research Reactor after this date belong to C:10/8 rather than UW:4/70. Research Reactor Annual Reports will continue to be added to UW:4/70/1 however.

Series 1. - UW:4/70/1 (A86-54; A86-60; A96-63; A03-70)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Research Reactor, (1965-1999). Included in this Series are copies of UM-System Research Reactor (MURR) Annual Reports, (1977-1996), MURR Operations Annual Reports, (1971-1999), MURR Technical Specifications Reports, copies of pre-operational test procedures, hazard summary report addendum, reports concerning "anticipated transients without scram," and a copy of the 1965 "UM Research Reactor Facility Hazards Summary Report: In Support of an Application to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission for a Class 104 Utilization Facility License."

Included in this Series are administrative and professional correspondence, American Nuclear Society (ANS) conference materials, ANS Reactor Operations Division newsletters, ANS committee records, ANS officer election ballots, ANS Reactor Operations Division survey results, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) conference materials, ASTM committee records, UM-System Research Reactor (MURR) contracts with Gamma Industries, reports from the Argonne National Laboratory, legislative requests for MURR funding, MURR personnel records, and contracts with Nuclear Medicine Incorporated (NMI).

Series 4. - UW:4/70/NP (A94-14)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Research Reactor, (1984-1989). Included in this Series are administrative and professional correspondence, promotional brochures, annual reports and related records of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, annual reports and related records of the Nuclear Engineering Program, records regarding penalties the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) imposed on the UM-System Research Reactor (MURR) for improper procedures, American Nuclear Society (ANS) workshop and meeting materials, Neutron Capture Therapy (NCT) workshop materials, and fund-raising materials for the "Atomic Library and Technologies Foundation," and the "Missouri Corporation for Science and Technology." Much of the correspondence in this Series was created or received by Robert M. Burgger, MURR Director during 1988 and 1989.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Research Reactor, (1978-1985). Included in this Series are professional correspondence, informational brochures, status reports, election ballots, and related records pertaining to the American Nuclear Society (ANS), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Argonne National Laboratory, and Brookhaven National Laboratory. Also included in the Series are correspondence with UM-System Research Reactor (MURR) student workers (along with some personnel records), legislative appropriations requests, staff benefits and educational assistance records, records of the Second International Symposium on Neutron Capture Therapy (NCT), and records of 1985 workshops on Advanced Steady State Neutron Sources and Investigation of Fundamental Interactions with Cold Neutrons.

Series 6. - UW:4/70/4 (A07-09)
This Series contains printed and duplicated materials pertaining to the UM Research Reactor, (1961-1974). Included in the Series is the Research Reactor Facility's Hazards Summary Report, (1965), including the preliminary report, (1961), and the five addenda, (1966-1974). The Series also contains the official construction specification volumes for the Reactor [RESTRICTED], (1963). Other records in the Series are: a Press Kit--MU Nuclear Reactor Start-up, October 13-15, 1966, a related "Fact Sheet," 5 black-and-white photographic prints (4 with cut-lines), a paper entitled A Photo Summary Of Construction Progress on the Research Reactor Facilities at the University of Missouri - Columbia (consisting of 4 printed pages of snapshots), and a 14-page description of the reactor installation.
