Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Graduate School and Office of Research pertaining to the Vice Provost for Research and/or the Office of Research. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence files, project reports, newsletters, data forms, research leave proposals, committee reports, crime test reports, research grant applications, position search files, research center records, copies of conference proceedings, journal articles, promotional materials including video tapes, meeting abstracts, Research Initiatives, post-research reports to the Research Board, Institutional Review Board files, and MU Research Reactor (MURR) files. This Sub-Group also includes records of the MU Office of Economic Development which for a period reported to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.
Historical Note:
The Research Reactor transferred from UM-System to MU in 1989. Records received from the Research Reactor after this date belong to C:10/8 rather than UW:4/70.

Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - C:10/8/1
This Series contains a summary copy of the first annual report to the University of Missouri-Columbia Graduate School by the Director of the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences, (1952). The report includes descriptions of the Institute's creation and organization, a history of the development of the social sciences at MU, a list of the graduate degrees awarded by MU in the social sciences (1890-1950), and an appraisal of social science research funding at MU.

This Series contains proceedings of the Annual Conference on Trace Substances in Environmental Health, hosted by the University of Missouri-Columbia Environmental Trace Substances Center, (1967-1981, 1984). Included in this series are lists of participants and registrants and copies of papers and lectures presented at the conference.

This Series contains brochures, reports, broadsheets and other printed materials generated by the University of Missouri-Columbia Research Park, (1966-1979). Included in this Series are materials generated by the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center and the Space Sciences Research Center. Specific titles include "Dalton Research Center Annual Report, 1972-1973", "Final Report of the Dalton Research Center Advisory Committee", (12/1/1979), and "Telemed Report", (12/1971).

Note to Archivist: The "Telemed Report" and accompanying "Appendix A: Trip Reports" were given to the University Archives by Chancellor Richard Wallace, one of the authors of the report. Chancellor Wallace had, in turn, received them from Richard Evans, one of the other authors of the report. Correspondence regarding the provenance of the Archives' copy of the report is included in the collection.

This Series contains some general files but the bulk consists mainly of reports and committee records. Reports in this Series include monthly reports (1988-1993) as well as reports generated by the proposed Reactor Upgrade and Addition (1990-1991), including the Sverdrup Report. Committee records include the Radiation Safety Committee (1990-1992), the Research Reactor Advisory Committee Subcommittee (1991), the Advisory Committee (1992), and Vice Provost Judson Sheridan's records for the Advisory Committee (1991). The records were created and/or received by Chester Byrl Edwards, Jr. in the course of holding various positions at the Research Reactor. Record types and topics found in the Series are as follows: meeting files, (1988-1997), including agendas, minutes, correspondence, memoranda, notes, and supplemental material for Engineering meetings, Facilities Operations meetings, and Group Leader and Manager meetings as well as campus committees such as Staff Advisory Committee, (1988), and Campus Facilities Advisory Committee, (1994); director search files [RESTRICTED], (1989, 1990, 1996-1997), including program review reports; Facilities Operations annual reports, (1991-1993); Facilities Operations position and operation files, (1971, 1992-1998); staff awards; and budget files, (1995-1997). This Series also contains correspondence and memoranda files regarding facility planning and management [RESTRICTED], (1968-1991, 1994), and special visitors to the reactor facility, (1988-1994), as well as VHS video tapes of MURR events and video productions, (1986-1994). Chester Edwards began employment at the University of Missouri in 1968 as a Reactor Operator, ultimately retiring from MURR in 1999 as Facilities Manager.
