Historical Note:

In 1963, the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Missouri St Louis joined the University of Missouri-Columbia and the University of Missouri-Rolla to create a four campus System. Each campus appointed its own Dean of Extension at that time. C. Brice Ratchford (future UM-System President, 1971-1976), became Vice President for Extension, exercising oversight of all UM-System Statewide Extension efforts. In 1972, Lincoln University's extension efforts were integrated into University of Missouri Statewide Extension. This evolving administrative structure was again changed, in 1979, when the position of Vice President for Extension was eliminated. Administration of UM-System Statewide Extension was transferred to the Office of UM-System Vice President for Academic Affairs and the position of Director of Cooperative Extension was also created. This latter administrator directed all UM-System Extension programs (under the title of "Cooperative Extension Services") and reported to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. In 1993, the Office of Vice President for University Outreach was created. Administration of UM-System Cooperative Extension Services was made one of the new Vice President's duties. At this same time, the position of Assistant Vice President and Associate Director of Cooperative Extension was created to assist the Vice President for University Outreach in regard to UM-System Cooperative Extension work. On 1 January 2004, administrative control of UM-System Outreach and Extension was transferred to the MU Office of the Provost.
Note to Researchers: For a brief description of the earliest days of Extension work at the University of Missouri, see the "Historical Note" included in
