Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group holds the personal and professional papers and files of staff, faculty, and researchers of the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) and its various laboratory facilities (1963-1993). Among the AES facilities are a Chemical Laboratory, a Chromatography and Mass-Spectrometry facility, as well as various experiment stations located throughout the state. The Sub-Group holds papers from the following AES researchers: Charles Gehrke.
Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - C:25/4/1 (A01-128; A10-41)
This Series contains the research and professional scientific papers of Professor of Biochemistry Charles W. Gehrke, (1947-1997, bulk 1967-1993). Included in the Record Series are research grant and proposal files, research project data and report files, correspondence with scientific colleagues, manuscripts and publishing files, reports and correspondence with Marion Laboratories, reports and correspondence from his tenure as chairman of the board of ABC Laboratories, meeting and teaching presentations, photographs and slides, films and audio tapes, and files regarding his work for NASA analyzing geological samples from the lunar surface.

Two 16mm films from this collection, Chromic Oxide Analytical Procedure and Potassium Oxide Flame Test, have been transferred to Digital Video and DVD formats. The two DVDs are stored with digital media. Two of the audio tape cassettes have been tranferred to digital formats.
Note to Researcher: Professor Charles William Gehrke was born in New York City in 1917. He studied at Ohio State University receiving the BA, BS, MS, and PhD degrees there. In 1948 Gehrke joined the MU College of Agriculture, retiring in the Fall of 1987 from positions as Associate Professor of Agricultural Chemistry (1948-1954), Professor of Biochemistry, Manager of the Experiment Station Chemical Laboratories (1954-1987), and Director of the University Interdisciplinary Chromatography Mass-Spectrometry Facility (1982-1988). Professor Emeritus Gehrke also served as Scientific Coordinator of the Cancer Research Center. Gehrke is the author, contributor, or editor of a number of scientific texts in analytical chemistry, almost 300 research articles, and is the recipient of numerous awards and honors from his fellow scientists.
