Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar. Included in this Sub-Group are student registration ledgers, lists of degrees conferred, correspondence, memoranda, student course cards, student petitions, grade records, faculty meeting minutes, committee meeting minutes, school and college minute books, registration forms, evaluation reports, student matriculation books, pamphlets, photostats of documents, class lists, applications for admission, memoranda, publication galleys, program schedules, annual reports, and graduation lists.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:1/101/1
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar (1843-1911). Included in this Series are ten handwritten student registration ledgers. These ledgers note student names, hometowns, and home counties. Volumes 9-11 (1893-1896) also include courses and grades.

Series 2. - C:1/101/32 (A78-29; A86-36)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar (1843-1950). Included in this Series is a work entitled Degrees Conferred by the University of Missouri, 1843-1945, by W. H. Rees. The entries in this work are handwritten. It contains classifications and explanation of the degrees and certificates awarded by MU. There is a special note on MU's first woman graduate (1870). Also included in this Series are graduation statistics (no names), (1843-1950), compiled by Assistant Registrar Sallie Grant.

Included in this Series are student record cards of trainees who completed various special courses at MU. These courses include pre-1900 Summer School offerings, supplemental Nursing School classes, Extension Division and pre-Legal courses (1936-1941), Science and Management War Training (1942-1944), and Science and Management Defense Training (1942-1944).

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar (1876-1893). Included in this Series are bound and unbound grade reports prepared by individual MU professors. These reports contain students' names, grades earned, absences, if examined, if excused from the University, and remarks by the professor concerning the student or the class as a whole.

Series 27. - C:1/101/24 (A89-36)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar (1910-1924). Included in this Series are grade cards from the Washington University School of Social Economy, the Missouri School of Social Economy (with classes taught in St. Louis by the University of Missouri), and Public Health Nurse student records. The grade cards and academic records in this Series hold such information as students' names, addresses, number of hours credited, grades earned, tuition charges, and when charges were paid. Public Health Nurse records in this Series contain individual student applications, correspondence, experience sheets, weekly efficiency reports, and student grades.

Note to Researcher: The St. Louis School of Philanthropy began offering coursework in 1907. It ended its affiliation with the University of Missouri in 1909 when it became the School of Social Economy at Washington University. It was run as an independent institution from 1915 until renewing the association with the University of Missouri and becoming the Missouri School of Social Economy in 1916.

Series 28. - C:1/101/25
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar (1925-1929). Included in this Series are student course cards for MU College of Agriculture Winter Semester Short Courses. These cards hold information such as students' names, course titles, course numbers, units credited, lab hours, and course grade earned.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar (1907-1908). Included in this Series are academic student records of the St. Louis School of Philanthropy at which students could enroll as regular University of Missouri Extension students. These records contain information such as students' names, previous social work experience, enrollment and attendance records, instructors' names, and course grades.

Note to Researcher: The St. Louis School of Philanthropy began offering coursework in 1907. It ended its affiliation with the University of Missouri in 1909 when it became the School of Social Economy at Washington University. It was run as an independent institution from 1915 until renewing the association with the University of Missouri and becoming the Missouri School of Social Economy in 1916.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar (1929-1935). Included in this Series are academic student records of the Ozark Wesleyan College (Ozark Junior College). These records contain students' names, courses taken each semester, course grades, academic standing and ranking, and, often, date of birth, hometown, high school attended, and names of parents or guardians.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Admissions and Registrar (1915). Included in this Series are copies of reports to the University of Missouri Junior College Committee from the Visiting Evaluation Committee for Winter and Spring, 1915. These reports contain evaluations of each course taught at each college, commendations for teaching competency, recommendations for improvements in deficient areas, background information on college faculty, and information on college facilities.

Included in this Series are three "Student Matriculation" books which lists all students enrolled at the University by school year. Schedules contain information regarding courses offered, lecture and laboratory periods, seminars and institutes, fees, additional charges, academic regulations, campus activities, student housing, independent study courses, campus maps, and degree program requirements.
