Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia's College of Arts and Science Dean's Office. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence files, memoranda, reports, speech texts, newspaper clippings, administrative forms, meeting minutes, photographs, surveys, questionnaires, printed and duplicated material, journal articles, enrollment statistics, budget and salary files, grant and award files, promotion and tenure records, faculty personnel files, facilities construction and renovation files, and general administrative records pertaining to every aspect of the day-to-day operation of the College of Arts and Science.
Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - C:6/1/1
This Series contains administrative files of the MU College of Arts and Science Dean's Office, (ca. 1957-1970). These records were created during or relate directly to the tenure of Dean W. F. English, (1955-1969). Included in this Series are correspondence files, memoranda, reports, speech texts, newspaper clippings, administrative forms, meeting minutes, photographs, surveys, questionnaires, journal articles, enrollment statistics, budget and salaries records, grant and award files, promotion and tenure records, facilities construction and renovation files, and other general administrative records.

Included in this Series are correspondence files, committee files, planning information, Council of Chairs records, promotion and tenure records, graduate student files, and other general administrative records. Council of Chairs records consist of administrative correspondence and meeting records, (1991-1996).

This Series contains administrative files from the Dean's Office of the College of Arts and Science, (1989-1993). Included in the Series are correspondence files, reports, minutes, and scholarship documents. Topics in the Series include the chancellor's recruitment, including reports from the Search Committee Chair, Larry Clark; program assessment in the College, including student assessments; and the Math Literacy Task Force. Also included in the Series are programs from the 1990 and 1991 Summer Commencements.

Series 6. - C:6/1/NP (A00-142)
This Series contains administrative records created or received by the Dean's Office of the College of Arts and Science, (1983-1992). This Series contains correspondence, budget information, annual reports, program reviews and assessments, and academic and long-range plans. Program reviews, academic plans, and future plans, (1983-1988) are included in this Series for each Department within the College, a General College Plan, (1991) and a Long-Range Plan, (1985). Reports in this Series include an annual assessment review to the Coordinating Board of Higher Education and a 1990 Self-Study of the MU Department of Anthropology. Testimonial Award documents for Senator Stuart Symington are also included in the Series as are general correspondence files to and from the department chairs concerning budget, staffing, and other administrative duties.

The Series contains academic personnel files, including promotion and tenure dossiers [Restricted], cumulative update files for departed faculty, and recruitment files concerning the final candidate for the chair of the Department of Chemistry (1987-1988, 1993).

These records were received following water damage to the original storage location (003062) in the University of Missouri Records Center in August of 2023.
Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
