Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records generated by the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Arts and Science Associate Dean's Office. The Sub-Group includes correspondence, memoranda, brochures, reports, proposals, committee records, and topical files.
Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - C:6/3/1
This Series contains administrative records generated by the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Arts and Science Associate Dean's Office during the tenure of Associate Dean Edward M. Palmquist, (ca. 1956-1972). Included in this Series are correspondence files, handwritten notes and typed memoranda, brochures, administrative forms, departmental reports, program proposals, and ledger sheets. Also included in the Series are office files relating to accreditation of junior colleges, the Normandy Residence Center, educational television, testing and counseling services, planning for University Day, updating of faculty by-laws, off campus programs for undergraduates, committee service, awarding of scholarships and fellowships, National Science Foundation-sponsored Summer Institutes, advanced placement services, student advisement procedures, foundation fellowships, audits of student organizations, NAACP activities in Columbia, rotation of Departmental Chairmanships, academic dishonesty and student discipline, teacher evaluations, academic tenure regulations, and English programs for international students.

Series 2. - C:6/3/NP (A01-61)
This Series contains administrative records of the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Arts and Science Associate Dean Michael J. O'Brien, (1990-1991) consisting of correspondence and committee records. Committee records include the Anthropology Space Center Committee, the Anthropology Museum Committee, and the Grievance Oversight Committee.

This Series contains general administrative files of the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Science, (1988-1997). The majority of the records in this Series were produced or received during the period Theodore Tarkow was Associate Dean of Students in the College of Arts and Science. The records consist of correspondence, memoranda, brochures, meeting minutes and agendas, reviews and reports, press releases, and newsletters. The records pertain to a wide range of administrative units and topics, including the following: the Registration Advisory Committee, the Scholarship Committee, the Curriculum and Advising Committee, (1993-1994), the Deans' Council of Chairs, Three-Year Degree Task Force, enrollment data, (1988-1989), the impact of Arts and Science on Missouri, Tate Hall renovation plans, the Biological Sciences Research Center, faculty awards, grade appeals [RESTRICTED], the acquisition of an inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer for the Geological Sciences, the Arts and Science Alumni Association, the first issue of the Department of Anthropology's newsletter Wa-jee-pa-na, (1992), Arts and Science attendance policies, the Bachelor of Arts Program in International Studies, faculty mentorship, (1994), departmental procedures for evaluation of teaching assistants, and the Kemper Award.

This Series contains administrative records from the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Science, (1998-2001), created during the tenure of Associate Dean Theodore Tarkow. The records in this Series consist of the following types and topics: Associate Dean's appointment books, (1999-2001); general administrative correspondence and memoranda with various College departments and University administrative units including Registrar Gary Smith; Writing-Intensive Conference, (1998); Curriculum, Instruction, and Advising Committee; student-related records regarding admissions [RESTRICTED]; funding requests and program support; and budget-related records for the Missouri Scholars Academy as well as for other areas of the College.

Series 5. - C:6/3/4 (A15-51)
This Series contains administrative and other records from the Office of the Associate Dean for Students in the College of Arts and Science, (1997, 2002-2011). The records were created during the tenure of Associate Dean Theodore Tarkow and pertain to Freshman Interest Groups, the Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program, Arts and Science Commencement, the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, and Arts and Science scholarships and awards.

Series 6. - C:6/3/5 (A22-51)
This Series contains records created or received by Student Services in the College of Arts and Science's Office of the Associate Dean, (1992-2008). The records consist of summer course preliminary announcements, (2003-2007), "Important Dates and Information" sheets, (1995-2008), a crosswalk for course numbers, (2003), and miscellaneous course announcements, course changes, etc.

Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files.
