Scope and Content Note

This Record Sub-Group contains records relating to several fraternities and sororities which have established chapters on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus as well as records concerning the Greek system in general. Included in this Record Sub-Group are membership directories, alumni records, lists of chapter officers, constitutions, by-laws, informational brochures, photographs, song books, scrapbooks, newsletters, blueprints, manuscript histories, membership certificate, correspondence files, event programs, and a publication.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:22/7/1 (A91-52; A02-28; A04-10; A04-79; A05-55; A13-07; A13-49; A14-28; pamphlet file)
This Series contains materials generated by a number of Greek letter social organizations on the MU campus, (1890-2016). Included in this Series are membership directories of individual organizations, event programs, a copy of the Inter-fraternity Council Constitution, publications of the Women's Panhellenic Association, sorority and fraternity informational booklets, rush guides, rules and regulations, handbooks, song sheets, chapter histories, combined membership directories for all campus fraternities and sororities, newsletters, and several issues of The Panhellenic (1890-1891), an early inter-fraternity newspaper. Also included in the Series are house composite photographs for the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, (1963-1983).

Series 3. - C:22/7/3 (A84-8)
This Series contains a history of the MU chapter of the Agriculture Honor Society, Gamma Delta. This work, by H. J. L'Hote, is entitled, "The Fraternity of Gamma Delta: The Honor Society of Agriculture Missouri Chapter Seventy-Five Years in Review."

This Series contains a ledger book listing University of Missouri-Columbia Farm House members and their pledges for the 1963-1964 academic year. Also included in this Series are seven color photographs of Farm House "Little Sister" events, (ca. 1982-1983).

This Series contains text written for an informational brochure produced by the University of Missouri-Columbia Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Included in this Series is a brief history of the fraternity’s Delta Omega chapter (the first African-American Greek house at MU), by Roscoe H. Adams, (ca. 1995). Also included in this Series are member listings for the MU chapter, (1958-1994) and the Iota Omega chapter at the University of Missouri-Rolla, (1978-1991).

This Series contains records of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, University of Missouri-Columbia Chapter Xi Xi. Included in this Series is a promotional brochure, (ca. 1953), an alumni record, (ca. 1986), and a reunion booklet, (ca. 1983).

Series 7. - C:22/7/9 (A01-17)
This Series contains records of the Missouri Chapter of the Acacia Fraternity collected by alumni Thomas William Griffin, 1933. Included in the Series are: a membership certificate (1932), a black/white photograph (10.5 x 6 cm) of the Acacia house, (ca. 1934), and a newspaper clipping announcing the election of Griffin as president of the Acacia Fraternity, (ca. 1934).

Series 8. - C:22/7/10
This Series contains The Greek Chronicle, (2000-2007). The mission statement of The Greek Chronicle is to "fully represent the entire Greek Community in the light it deserves. Through this coverage, it is our hope to gain the trust of the community and establish The Greek Chronicle as the first choice when it comes to reading about the Greek system at the University of Missouri." The newspaper was established in 2000, with the first issue of Volume I appearing on 02/29/2000.

Series 9. - C:22/7/11 (A02-153)
This Series contains memorabilia of the University of Missouri Chapter of the Acacia Fraternity donated by former Acacia member and University of Missouri alumnus William Roland Klein. Included in the Series is an Acacia scrapbook for the academic year 1956-1957, Acacia Chapter photographs, (1957-1960), and hundreds of individual photographs of Acacia events and dances, (ca. 1956-1957). The scrapbook contains photographs of the Acacia House on Rollins Street and various Acacia events including the 1956 Homecoming float and decorations; telegrams and congratulatory cards regarding new pledges and events; a rush pamphlet, (1957-1958); and a copy of the Homecoming edition of the TRI-MO, (1956), the Missouri Chapter newsletter.
Note to Archivist: As many of the photographs in this collection were taken by Charles Mar Pictures, Columbia, Missouri, requests for duplication and use must consider the issue of applicable copyright.

This Series contains records produced by or for the Evans Scholars Fraternity at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Included in the Series is a program for the Fourth Annual Name that Tune fundraising event presented by the fraternity, (1978) and an issue of the Missouri Evans Scholars Alumni Newsletter, (2001).

Series 11. - C:22/7/13 (A06-27)
This Series contains a published history of the Gamma Rho chapter of Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity at the University of Missouri-Columbia, (2006). The history was published to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the chapter's founding.

Series 12. - C:22/7/14 (A06-53)
This Series contains a scrapbook created by the Rho Alpha Chapter of the Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Missouri-Columbia, (1913-1924). The scrapbook contains, among other items, photographs of members and events, newspaper clippings, invitations, programs, postcards, and dance cards. The scrapbook also contains an issue of the student newspaper MU Life, (1923).

This Series contains photographs pertaining to the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity at the University of Missouri, (1954-1955). The photographs depict the fraternity dog Waldo, (1955), and a "Shipwreck" party, (1954).

Note to Researcher: The photographs were given by David B. Zoellner (Bachelor of Journalism, 1955) to Publications and Alumni Communications in 1996 and transferred to University Archives in 2011. Zoellner appears in the party photograph.

Series 14. - C:22/7/16 (A12-119)
This Series contains memorabilia of the Alpha Sigma Pi Fraternity at the University of Missouri. The memorabilia consist of one porcelain drinking mug or stein displaying the insignia of Alpha Sigma Pi along with the year 1953 and the word "Chub."

This Series contains issues of Greek Net, an official student organization newspaper published for the Greek Life community on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus, (1995-2001). Subjects covered in the newspaper include campus news, chapter news, intramural sports, and profiles of Greek leaders on campus.
