Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains printed and duplicated materials produced by the University of Missouri-Columbia Libraries. Included in the Sub-Group are bulletins, catalogs, reports, Ellis Library Addition broadside and preliminary building expansion design drawings, and facilities planning documents.
Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - C:20/2/1 (A86-54; A02-172)
This Series contains catalogs and informational bulletins printed by the University of Missouri-Columbia Libraries, (1857-1981). Included in the Series are histories of the MU Libraries, lists of serials held, and handbooks for library patrons and for members of the Missouri Library Association. Also included in the Series is a copy of the 1857 Catalogue of the Books Belonging to the Library of the University of Missouri; to Which are Appended Catalogues of the Books Belonging to the Libraries of the Literary Societies.

Series 2. - C:20/00/2 (A86-54)
This Series contains copies of materials published by the Western Historical Manuscripts Collection (WHMC), (ca. 1943-1957, ca. 1991-2009). Included in this Series are bulletins which provide information concerning the Manuscript Collection's establishment, its policies and procedures, as well as descriptive Guides to the Western Historical Manuscripts Collection, (1952-1956). Also included in the Series is a bulletin describing the papers of the Maramec Iron Works, (ca. 1957), the newsletters Manuscript Collection News (1999-2000), and Missouri Times (2008-2009), and general brochures about the collection, its history, and services available to patrons, (ca. 1991-1995), as well as WHMC events, such as the Peter Tamony Lecture.

Series 3. - C:20/00/4 (A79-51)
This Series contains records created by MU Libraries, (ca. 1915-1968). The majority of the records consist of annual report working papers, including departmental annual reports to the University Librarian or Library Director. These reports include information concerning staff appointments, student assistants, resignations, promotions, salaries, budgets, accessions, gifts, and statistical comparisons with other libraries. Also included in this Series is information relating to University Extension, Summer Library School, the Missouri Library Association, the American Library Association, the opening of MU's Ellis Library, publications by Library staff members, early use of computer-maintained data bases, and month-by-month comparisons of student library fines and late charges.

Series 4. - C:20/00/6
This Series contains a copy of the 1981, Libraries of the University of Missouri-Columbia: Library Evaluation and Facilities Program Plan authored by a consultants group. This plan includes a floor plan of existing library space at MU, an evaluation of conditions, facilities needs projections, and a summary compiled by the consultants.

Series 5. - C:20/00/7 (A00-01; various)
This Series contains broadsides and posters created by and for the MU Libraries, (1987-present). Included in the Series are copies of "Ellis Library Addition - University of Missouri-Columbia" by artist Frank Stack, (1987), "Explore @ MU Libraries," (2005), and "Experience @ MU Libraries," (2005), "Fridays @ the Library," (2014-2016), exhibit posters, welcome posters, calendars, and a poster of floor plans for Ellis Library, (1979).

Series 6. - C:20/1/4 (A00-19)
This Series consists of architectural drawings and plans and interior design renderings, proposals and related records depicting the University of Missouri-Columbia Ellis Library Addition, (1984). Included in the Series are elevations, space assignment and floor plans, blueprints, drawings of interior design elements, site plans, and lighting layouts. These records vary in size and many are mounted on foam-core and poster board for proposal presentations. The structural and architectural plans were prepared by the architectural firm of Peckham, Guyton, Alers & Viets, Inc., and the interior design proposals were developed by the company, Robert Baker Interiors, Inc.

This Series consists of reports generated by the University of Missouri-Columbia Libraries. Included in this Series is the 1986 Preservation Planning Program Study, the 1984 Program Review, the 1974 Management Review and Analysis (MRAP) Report, and the 1998 Strategic Planning Report.

Severance, (1936); Disaster Manuals for Ellis Library, (1999-2004); Library Society Dinner programs, (2004-2011); the newsletter UMC Libraries: Newsletter of Library Service at the University of Missouri Columbia (1978-1982); "Ellis Library Security Officer Manual," (2008); library staff retirement events, and Special Collections events. This Series also includes audio-visual material related to events sponsored by the MU Libraries, including "Tennessee Williams - The Art of Endurance."

This Series contains annual reports of the University of Missouri-Columbia Libraries, (1901-1991, 2015-2016). The Series consists of Librarian's Reports, (1901-1972); University of Missouri Library Annual Reports, (1949-1991, 2015-2016, with gaps), some of which include departmental annual reports; and annual reports produced by some of the library departments such as Acquisitions, Order, Catalog, Preparations, Data Processing, and Serials, (1939-1979, with gaps).

This Series contains printed and duplicated materials pertaining to Ellis Library, (ca. 1970-1995). The material consists of architectural floor plans, (ca. 1990, 1995), and an exploded plan of the Ellis Library building, (ca. 1970).

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
