Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains administrative files of the Dean's Office of the MU School of Nursing. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence files, committee meeting minutes and reports, annual reports, photographs, course outlines, course offerings, and related materials, scripts for the "Your Health" television program (which aired on UMC's television station, KOMU), College of Nursing annual reports and accreditation reports, as well as faculty and staff handbooks. Also included in this Sub-Group are records pertaining to alumni activities, the Sesquicentennial of the Nursing Profession, recruitment by the U.S. Army and Navy, faculty development, "Project MO" Regional Medical Program, the "Cadet Nurse Corps," a brief history of the UMC School of Nursing (by Dean Emeritus of Nursing, Ruby Mildred Potter), nurses' record books and day books, and blueprints and architect's drawings of a proposed but never constructed UMC School of Nursing Building.

This Series contains the meeting minutes of the UMC School of Nursing Faculty Committee (1950-1973).

Series 3. - C:15/1/3 (A79-18; A79-19)
This Series holds photographs and related materials pertaining to the School of Nursing (ca. 1929-1973). Subjects included in this Series are students and faculty during School of Nursing activities (such as capping and pinning ceremonies for graduating nurses), Parker Hall, McAlester Hall, and the UMC Hospital and Clinics Complex. Also included with some faculty photographs are brief biographical sketches in this Series.

Series 4. - C:15/1/4
This Series contains outlines for School of Nursing television courses #115, #119, and #194, as well as scripts for the television series "Your Health" (ca. 1954-1972). Also included in the Series are files of School of Nursing correspondence pertaining to these courses and programs.

Series 5. - C:15/1/5 (A79-10)
This Series holds meeting minutes of special committees which have been parts of the administration of the UMC School of Nursing (ca. 1949-1973). Areas of concern for the committees included plans for expansion of the School of Nursing, entrance requirements for Nursing majors, development of audio-visual aids, continuing education for nurses, changes in course content, graduate student admission standards, School of Nursing Honor Roll and awards plans, child care nursing, practical nurse training, and public relations.

This Series contains administrative records generated by the Office of the Dean of the UMC School of Nursing. Included in this Series are files pertaining to aids and awards, alumni activities, faculty activities, student housing, armed forces recruiting, course schedules, continuing education, construction grants, degree offerings, School of Nursing committee appointments and committee minutes, "Project MO," Regional Medical Program, publicity, research applications, and faculty and staff handbooks. Also included in the Series is material relating to the career and accomplishments of Dean Ruby Mildred Potter.

Series 7. - C:15/1/7 (A79-18)
This Series holds "Day Books" of the "Parker Hospital Nurses Training School" (ca. 1902-1947), as well as correspondence, student records, and alumni records. The above mentioned Day Books contain information on hospital admissions, discharges, operations, contagious disease cases, and assignments and absences of student nurses. Also included in this Series is a log which records the names of all nursing students from 1925 through 1947.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files.
