Longwell, who was Dean from 1948 to 1960. Included in this Series are correspondence files, departmental reports, research project appraisals, committee materials, and budget materials. Also included are records pertaining to Dean Emeritus Longwell's years as MU's Director of Special Studies (1960-1975) as well as some of Dean Longwell's personal correspondence and an autobiographical manuscript entitled Records and Memories.

Included in this Series are four audiotapes and a typed transcript containing "An oral history" of the development of the Animal Science Research Center. Contributing on the tapes are Dean Elmer R. Kiehl and College of Agriculture Professors William H. Pfander, Harold D. Johnson, George B. Gander, James E. Savage, Harlan G. Lynn, and Richard L. Lee.

Included in this Series is the text of a speech made by Mr. Sid Johnson, a 1935 graduate of MU, regarding the "Balanced Farming Program." This autobiographical speech concentrates on efforts to control soil erosion through contour planting and balanced farming techniques.

Note to Researcher: EARTH is a four-year college dedicated to sustainable agriculture in the humid tropics. Among many other things, students learn forward-thinking methods of integrated pest management, silviculture and cultivation of tropical crops. UMC sends a group of approximately 11 students to Costa Rica every fall and winter semester.

The majority of the records were created during the deanship of Roger Mitchell, (1983-1998).The records include correspondence about the various farms and centers associated with CAFNR and with legislators regarding agricultural and environmental issues; departmental and college planning documents; handbooks; reports; conference records; and a few pamphlet publications.

This Series contains administrative records from the Dean's Office of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, (1975-1991). The records consist mainly of correspondence though there are some meeting minutes, reports, contracts and plan proposals. The records concern a wide variety of topics, including the various departments in the College; faculty members and project directors; organizations and associations such as the Organization for Tropical Studies, the Centro Agronomico Tropical de Investigacion y EnseƱanza (CATIE), the Farming Systems Support Project, the MidAmerica International Agriculture Consortium (MIAC), the International Rural Sociology Association (IRSA), and the Agency for International Development (AID); the College's Small Farm Strengthening Grant; and events such as World Food Day, (1985-1987). Series 65. - C:3/1/74 (A17-31)
This Series contains manuscript materials compiled for a history of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources by Roger Mitchell, Dean of the College. The materials include Mitchell's correspondence with administrators, faculty and staff of the College, as well as notes and draft sections of the history, written by Mitchell and others.

Note to Researcher: Roger Lowry Mitchell (1932-2013) came to the University of Missouri in 1969 as chair of the Agronomy Department, and became dean of MU Extension in 1972. He left the University in 1975 for Kansas State University, where he served as vice president for agriculture, returning to MU as chair of Agronomy in 1981. He served as Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources from 1983 until his retirement in 1998. He was an early leader of the College's "Food for the 21st Century" program, which ultimately led to the creation of the Interdisciplinary Plant Group.

Series 66. - C:3/1/75 (A18-03)
This Series consists of materials related to the creation of the William J. Spillman Farm Management Fund in the Department of Agricultural Economics in MU's College of Agriculture, (1960-1961). Materials include correspondence among Dean Elmer Kiehl, Ramsay and Margaret Spillman, and others, related to the creation of the Fund. Also included is a photocopy of a manuscript, written by Ramsay Spillman (Spilman), for a biography of William Jasper Spillman, MU alumnus and namesake of the Fund.
