Scope and Content Note:

This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. Included in the Sub-Group are photographs, negatives, photographic slides (some on glass), films, and video tapes depicting College of Agriculture faculty, staff, students, activities, buildings, and facilities. Also included are maps of College grounds and property, photograph indexes, and statistical graphs relating to some of the photograph subjects.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:3/36/2 (A77-53; A84-61; A98-93; A98-111)
This Series contains panoramic photographs of UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources faculty and Agriculture Extension staff (including county agents) for the years 1926 through 1936. Also included are individual photographs of some College of Agriculture faculty and staff from 1872 through 2002. A number of these individual photographs were taken by noted MU photographer, Andy Tau.

Series 3. - C:3/36/4 (A86-86; A98-113)
This Series contains photographic slides, both black-and-white and color, relating to the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, (1900-1985). Included in this series are images of faculty, students, buildings, maps, and graphics used in slide presentations produced by the College. Some of these slides are reproductions of historical photographs (ca. 1900), depicting Dean F. B. Mumford teaching class and crowning a Barnwarming Queen, as well as Farmers' Fair parade floats drawn by mule teams. Also included are slides depicting graphs of enrollment comparisons and budget and funding levels. The Colonel William Henry Hatch home, MU Research Centers, students, faculty, classrooms, workshops, and College of Agriculture graduation ceremonies are also represented in these slides.

Please follow this link to reach the inventory.This collection contains aerial photographs and maps pertaining to the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, (1916-1968). Included in this collection are aerial photographs of the buildings and grounds on the UMC campus as well as maps and aerial photographs of the UMC College of Agriculture's Experiment Stations.

Series 6. - C:3/1/39 (A91-121; A06-03)
This Series contains photographs relating to the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, (1909-1924). Included in this Series are bound volumes of photographic prints entitled, "Views of the College of Agriculture University of Missouri," (1921, 1922, 1924), that depict images of College of Agriculture buildings and facilities, a water garden, Ellis Library (interior and exterior), a gym class, Rollins Field, Jesse Hall, student activities, Farmers' Fair floats, swine inoculations, meat cutting, bee keeping, poultry house construction, and sheep, swine, cattle, and horses raised by the College of Agriculture and exhibited at the Missouri State Fair. Also part of this Series are printed view books and pamphlets of the College of Agriculture, including some depicting its animal herds and flocks. Some of these view books were published in the University of Missouri Bulletin series.

This Series contains photographs produced by the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, (1919-1977). Included in this series are group photographs of Agriculture Club Officers for 1924 (A. S. Barrier, O. E. Allen, and F. E. Rogers), the Board of Directors of the 1924 Commencement Horse Show, the 1924 Agriculture Block and Bridle Club membership, members of the 1919 Sheep Judging and Agriculture Short Course classes, and the 1977 membership of the Association of Retired UMC Professors of Agriculture. Also included in this series are photographs of floats entered in the 1919 Farmers' Fair parade.

Series 11. - C:3/1/31 (A85-109)
This Series contains a videocassette of Eugene Poirot explaining the elements of his "Second Market" farm program, (1984). Also included in this series are related correspondence and newspaper clippings. This program aimed at eliminating farm surpluses by allowing farmers to choose whether to grow food for the consumers or participate in the "Second Market" by letting their fields rest and improve the soil for future crops. Series 12. - C:3/18/3 (A86-38)
This Series contains photographs of the groundbreaking ceremony for the UMC Agricultural Engineering Building, (10/18/1985). Included in this series are images of University of Missouri President Peter C. Magrath, UMC Chancellor Barbara S. Uehling, Governor John Ashcroft, Senator Christopher Bond, Missouri State Legislators, and College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources faculty members.

Series 13. - C:3/36/6 (A03-104)
This Series contains photographs and publications produced by the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, (1941). The Series consists of four photographs and five issues of the College Farmer in which the photographs appeared. The photographs were most likely taken by the publication's photographer, Lawrence Gundy who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri in 1946.

Series 14. - C:3/36/7 (A14-105)
This Series contains photographic material of the College of Agriculture, (ca. 1910s). The material consists of a 35mm filmstrip, 4x5" copy negatives, and 4x5" copy prints. The filmstrip is of views of the College of Agriculture and includes 105 images with captions and 32 intertitles. The original filmstrip had its ends joined together to form a continuous loop.

Note to Archivist: The material in Series 14 was transferred from the State Historical Society of Missouri in 2014. The copy negatives and prints were made of the images on the filmstrip prior to transfer to University Archives. Also included are State Historical Society photograph worksheets.

This Series contains an oversized photograph of Professor of Agronomy and Dean of the College of Agriculture Merritt Finley Miller, (ca. 1965).
