Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Agricultural Editor's Office. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence, newspaper columns, newspaper column indexes, news releases and news publications, audio tapes of radio programs, videotapes of television programs, and photographs.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:3/25/7 (A78-56)
This Series holds microfilm copies of the Missouri Farm Page, an informational broadsheet produced by the UMC Agricultural Editor's Office for distribution by the Western Newspaper Union (1910-1920). Topics covered include improving agricultural production, preventing crop diseases, destroying harmful insects, storing and preserving farm products, caring for livestock and draft animals, construction of farm facilities, and advice for the farm homemaker.

Series 2. - C:3/25/3 (A99-73; A13-24)
This Series holds microfilm copies, (1912-1969), and paper copies, (1986-1998), of the Missouri Farm News Service, a weekly clipsheet published by the UMC Agricultural Editor's Office as a press service relating news of interest to farmers and agricultural researchers. Topics include research completed and in progress at UMC, pest management, land use, agricultural economics, and agricultural seminars, conferences, and field days.

Series 3. - C:3/25/6 (A77-68; A86-125)
This Series contains correspondence from the UMC Agricultural Editor's Office (1973-1981). The bulk of this correspondence relates to the work of Agricultural Editor's Office Director, Richard L. Lee, and Associate Director, Delmar Hateshol. Professor Hateshol's correspondence includes material relating to executive positions he held in the American Association of Agricultural Editors. Among materials included in this Series is a considerable volume of correspondence between the Agricultural Editor's Office and Dean of University Extension, Leonard C. Douglas.

Series 4. - C:3/25/4 (A74-54)
This Series contains copies of a weekly column entitled Science in Your Life by UMC Agricultural Editor's Office Science Editor, Bob Jones (1970-1975). Included in this Series are approximately two years of weekly columns on science topics of contemporary interest. The individual columns are dated by month and day, but not year. Also included in this Series are indexes of column topics.

This Series contains office records from the UMC Agricultural Editor's Office (1956-1984). Included in this series are correspondence, news releases, photographs, and copies of This Week in the Garden, Yard and Garden, and Garden Spotlight newspaper columns. Also included in the Series are lists of newspapers and television stations to which press releases and related materials were to be sent.

This Series contains printed and duplicated material created by the Agriculture Editor's Office of Extension and Agricultural Information, (1988-1989). Included in the Series are the first and second editions of Best of Missouri Farms.

Series 22. - C:3/25/28 (A10-37)
This Series contains photographic prints and negatives created and received by the Agriculture Editor's Office, (ca. 1936-2009). The photographic material mostly depicts College of Agriculture and Agricultural Extension employees. The Series also includes photographs of Ezra Taft Benson, (1954, 1957), during visits to the University of Missouri in his capacity as United States Secretary of Agriculture. Additionally, the Series includes photographs of College and Extension events, including the felling of the Jordan Oak.
