Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office created during the tenure of UM-System President, George A. Russell. Included in this Sub-Group are speeches delivered by Russell and administrative records.
Note to Researcher: Records from the Offic of President George A. Russell (collection numbers in the UW:4/6 Sub-Group) were returned to the Office of the President in March 2002. Many but not all of those records have been returned to and reaccessioned by University Archives starting in 2016.

Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - UW:4/6/1 (A16-49; A20-69)
This Series contains administrative and other records created and received by the Office of the President of the University of Missouri, (1979-1997, bulk 1990-1995). The records consist of general corespondence, speeches including President's Reports, University of Missouri South Africa Exchange Program (UMSAEP), files of Special Assistant Ronald Turner on long-range planning and distance learning, and budget request files and position search files [RESTRICTED], including for the position of chancellor at MU, Rolla, and Kansas City. Series 1 also contains VHS video cassette tapes of the Curators' Advisory Committee on Telecommunications Technology (CACOTT). The majority of the records stem from the presidency of George A. Russell.

Note to Archivist: The records in this Series were originally accessioned as A99-65 (047415, 047416), A00-111 (006626, 006653, 006665, 006715, 008439, 015788, 015828, 015906, 015951, 015952, 016080, 047339, 047340, 047342, 067820, 105645, 105650) and A01-21 (008157, 008158, 016083, 047343, 047346, 074287, 105647, 105648, 105649, 105651, 105652, 105653). They were formally deaccessioned in 2002 and returned to the President's Office at its request. Thirty-one of the originally-accessioned thirty-two boxes have been returned to the custody of University Archives and are held in this Series.

Series 3. - UW:4/6/3 (A16-48)
This Series contains administrative and other records created and received by the Office of the President of the University of Missouri, (1985-1992). The records consist mostly of speeches given by George A. Russell, both as president of the University of Missouri and as chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The Series also includes some administrative records pertaining to Ronald J. Turner, Special Assistant to the President of the University of Missouri.

Note to Archivist: The records in this Series were originally accessioned as A97-26. They were formally deaccessioned in 2002 and returned to the President's Office at its request. Two of the originally-accessioned twenty boxes have been returned to the custody of University Archives and are held in this Series. See UW:4/5/12 for additional records from A97-26.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
