Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office created during the tenure of UM- System President, C. Peter Magrath. Included in this Sub-Group are materials concerning the inauguration of President Magrath.
Note to Researcher: Some of President C. Peter Magrath's records (Collection Numbers UW:4/5) were deaccessioned and returned to the Office of the President in March 2002. They are no longer in the custody of University Archives.

This Series contains records and other materials created or received by University of Missouri President, C. Peter Magrath, (1985). Included in this Series are correspondence, memoranda, newspaper clippings, event programs, and audiocassette recordings relating to the inauguration of President Magrath on 04/25/1985.

This Series contains records created and received by the Office of the President of the University of Missouri, (ca. 1959-1992, bulk 1985-1990), during the presidency of C. Peter Magrath. The records consist of the following types and topics: correspondence, memoranda, University of Missouri-Columbia schools, colleges, and administration, organizations and associations, system-wide budget, Board of Curators' meetings, President's Executive Order No. 18, Academic Affairs, Administrative Affairs, Weldon Spring, Governor Ashcroft, Government Relations, Human Resources, Intercampus Faculty Advisory Council (IFC), Missouri Opportunity 2000, and the Missouri Research Assistance Act (MRAA). This Series also contains development files from Ron Turner regarding affiliates, Magrath, Time Inc., and the ESPN Panel.

The records consist of the following types and topics: correspondence, including some of Magrath's correspondence from before he became President in 1985, and also some correspondence of Magrath's predecessor, James Olson; the Midwestern Universities Alliance; faculty and staff communication; meetings; prepaid tuition; publications; Magrath appointment, transition, and inauguration; grievances [RESTRICTED]; recommendations [RESTRICTED]; development; legislators; the Missouri Business and Education Partnership Commission; and Proposition B. Series 12 contains a number of records, including meetings and speeches, from the presidency of George Russell, who succeeded Magrath in 1991.

Note to Archivist: The records in this Series were originally accessioned as A97-26. They were formally deaccessioned in 2002 and returned to the President's Office at its request. Sixteen of the originally-accessioned twenty boxes have been returned to the custody of University Archives and are held in this Series. However, a number of files from a later period and not from A97-26 were added at some point to Box 16 after the boxes had been returned to the Office of the President; these files have been separated into a more appropriate collection, UW:4/8/1, and are stored in Box 072693. Two of the originally-accessioned twenty boxes were added to UW:4/6/3 as the records were created during the time George Russell was president of the University of Missouri.

This Series contains administrative records created or received by the Office of the President of the University of Missouri during the tenure of C. Peter Magrath, (1982-1992). The records consist of the following types and topics: the University of Missouri Extension Director's position search, correspondence regarding proposed eliminations and reductions at the University of Missouri-Columbia, admissions, appointment calendars for Magrath, and Providence Point. The Series also include photographs of acting President Isidor Loeb, (1923).

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
