Scope and Content Note

This Record Sub-Group contains administrative, academic, and professional records created or received by faculty of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Natural Resources. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence, facilities expansion plans, promotion and tenure records, course exams, and faculty research papers. Also included in the Sub-Group are records pertaining to faculty responsibilities, teaching improvement grants, equipment needs, summer employment for forestry students, and student government.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:4/1/3 (A77-27)
This Series contains records created or received by University of Missouri-Columbia's School of Forestry Professor, Kent T. Adair, (1967-1977). These records relate to Professor Adair's activities as a teacher, student advisor, committee member, tour leader, and professional member of the Society of American Foresters. Included in this Series are records pertaining to presentation of papers before professional organizations, need for new equipment, tours of national forests, and tours of forestry operations in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Georgia. Also included in the Series are files pertaining to revision of the UMC faculty by-laws, faculty athletic opportunities, activities of the Faculty Council in regard to University policy, plans for Ellis Library expansion, student affairs and student government, the Doctoral Faculty, faculty promotion and tenure, legal educator and ombudsman programs course examination, teaching improvement grants, faculty responsibilities, and summer employment for forestry students.

This Series has been enlarged to a full inventory.

The inventory contains professional and personal papers and records created, received, and collected by William Hanna Elder during his academic and professional career as a student at the University of Wisconsin and as a faculty member at the University of Missouri, (1933-2007). These papers and records include correspondence, memoranda, notes, research data, journals, reports, publications, teaching records, student work, photographic prints and negatives, and a few research samples and specimens.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
