Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group holds partial business records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Journalism School's newspaper, the Columbia Missourian and of an associated publication, the Herald Statesman. Also included in this Sub-Group are mock-ups, draft articles, photographs and line drawings intended for a Columbia Missourian Sunday magazine called Vibrations, as well as individual issues of the Columbia Missourian.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:11/5/1 (A84-91; A84-97; A14-27)
This Series holds some of the business records of the UMC Journalism School's newspaper, the Columbia Missourian and of an associated publication, the Herald Statesman (1913, 1920-1958). Included in this Series are subscription ledgers, payment records, circulation records, carrier routes, carrier names, and carrier payment records. Also included in Series 1 is a subscription solicitation letter from the University Missourian, (1913).

Series 2. - C:11/5/2 (A84-92)
This Series holds page mock-ups, draft articles, and photographs and line drawings used in the Columbia Missourian Sunday magazine Vibrations during the period from January through July, 1981.

Series 3. - C:11/5/3 (A21-61)
This Series contains a copy of the "yellow extra" street edition of the University Missourian from June 1, 1915.

Series 4. - C:11/5/4 (A22-03)
This Series contains records of the Columbia Missourian, (2005). The records consist of a CD-R of field test editions of the Columbia Missourian in the a new format called Electronic Media Print or EmPrint that was designed at the School of Journalism to be a format for downloading and reading offline, and the format was intended as a digital publishing standard. The EmPrint issues are for March to May of 2005.

Series 5. - C:11/5/5
This Series contains miscellaneous printed and duplicated material created by the Columbia Missourian, (1953). The material consists of a 1953 "Favorite Recipe Book" edited by Womens Editor Queen Smith.

Series 6. - C:11/5/6 (A22-36)
This Series contains records of the Evening Missourian, the Columbia Evening Missourian, and the Columbia Missourian, (1918-1957). The records consist of circulation records, (1918-1957), an advertiser register, (1928-1930), an advertising display and expense register, (1921-1923), and miscellaneous records such as publisher's statement forms and subscription expiration notifications.
