This Record Sub-Group consists of a scrapbook and various items collected by MU Professor, Winterton C. Curtis, pertaining to the Scopes "Monkey" Trial in Dayton, Tennessee during 1925.

This Series consists of a scrapbook assembled by MU Professor, Winterton C. Curtis, pertaining to the Scopes "Monkey" Trial in Dayton, Tennessee during 1925. Also included in the Series are pamphlets, newspaper clippings, and correspondence relating to the evolution controversy in general and, specifically, the teaching of evolution in Missouri. Professor Curtis was a member of the faculty of the University of Missouri Department of Zoology and was engaged as an expert witness by the defense in the Scopes trial. Curtis did not, however, actually give testimony at the trial.
