Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office pertaining to the Office of Curators Scholars Program. Previous to 1987, UM-System scholarships and student aid were the responsibility of the Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid Services. Included in the Sub-Group are correspondence, nomination forms, acceptance forms, student earnings reports, scholarship files, records of grants to Women's Athletics, student loan fund files, "MASFAP" records, "ASADI02" records, UM-System committee records, budget materials, audit materials, records of legislation pertaining to UM-System scholarships, and "FISAP," "MDHE," "SCSP," and "NASFAA" records. Also included in this Sub-Group are records relating to student fees, UM-System project reports, and financial aids and awards to members of the YMCA, members of the Legion of Black Collegians, and Science Fair finalists.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - UW:4/34/NP (A87-108)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid Services (1925-1987). Included in this Series are correspondence, scholarship files, student loan fund files, "MASFAP" records, "ASADI02" records, UM-System committee records, budget materials, audit materials, records of legislation pertaining to UM-System scholarships, "FISAP," "MDHE," and "NASFAA" records, and UM-System project reports. Topics in the Series include wage freezes, the Curators Scholars Program, financial aid applications, computer use, student fees, the "Regan budget," billing practices, and financial aid programs. The bulk of records in this Series were created or received by Directors of Student Financial Aid, Allan W. Purdy (1971-1979) and Philip S. Rokicki (1980-1987).

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid Services (1963-1995). Included in this Series are correspondence, scholarship information, reports, "ASADI02" records, student earnings reports, and documents relating to Curators Scholarships. Curators Scholarship documents include nomination, acceptance, and declination forms, tracking files, computer-generated reports (1986-1990). Records pertaining to general UM-System student aid programs and related UM-System committees are also included. This Series also contains a copy of a report entitled, "100 Years of the Curators Scholastic Program at the University of Missouri," along with supporting documentation in the form of copies of publications and memoranda. In addition, this Series holds records of Science Fairs that includes finalists' project abstracts (1989-1995).

Other topics addressed by the records in this Series are "SCSP," UM-System grants to Women's Athletics, and UM-System aids and awards to the Legion of Black Collegians.

This former Series consists of files for specific endowments and gifts from persons and organizations with correspondence, agreements, and Curators' orders. Also included in this former Series are reviews and interest rate clarifications from the University Legal Counsel regarding the funds, (1984-1985).

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
