$1,250,000 for the Research Reactor Facility. |
February, 1960 | Director hired to develop program. |
April, 1960 | Proposal submitted to the National Science Foundation. |
June, 1960 | Proposal submitted to the National Institutes of Health. |
May, 1960 | Design contract to the Internuclear Company for nuclear
design work. |
June, 1960 | National Science Foundation Grant for $625,000 awarded. |
October, 1960 | Contract for Architectural and Engineering Design to
C.L.T. Gabler and Associates. |
March, 1961 | Preliminary Hazard Report to Atomic Energy Commission. |
July, 1961 | National Institutes of Health Grant for $150,000 awarded. |
July and September, 1961 | Amendments One and Two to Preliminary Hazard Report
to the Atomic Energy Commission. |
November, 1961 | Construction permit received from the Atomic Energy Commission. |
February, 1963 | Plans and Specifications released for bidding. |
April, 1963 | Bids opened, contracts let to:
- B. D. Simon Construction Company
- Natkin and Company
- C. J. Hervey and Company

July, 1963 | Construction began. |
July, 1965 | Final Hazard Report submitted to the Atomic Energy Commission. |
November, 1965 | Staff of twelve people move into facility. |
February and May, 1966 | Addenda number One and Two to Final Hazard Report
to the Atomic Energy Commission. |
May 28, 1966 | Facility dedicated. |
October 13, 1966 | Reactor first went critical. |
March 13, 1967 | Reactor attained power of one megawatt. |
June 30, 1967 | Reactor attained power of five megawatts. |
July 15, 1968 | Reactor went to three shift, 24-hour operation. |
November 1, 1968 | Proposal for upgrade to ten megawatts submitted to the
National Science Foundation. |
