Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains administrative files of the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Education's Department of Educational Counseling Psychology. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence files, records pertaining to the development of the Department, faculty publications, course materials, enrollment and graduation statistics, research reports, grant materials, testing results, and endowment records. The Sub-Group also contains printed and duplicated material produced by the Department.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:8/20/1 (A77-17; A81-55)
This Series contains administrative records of the Department of Educational Counseling Psychology created or received by Department Chairman, (ca. 1968-1975), Professor Paul Polmantier. Many of the records included in this Series pre-date professor Polmanteir's tenure as Chairman, covering the period from 1928 through 1976. Included in the Series are correspondence files, course materials, job applications, letters of recommendation, journal articles by departmental faculty, scripts of speeches by departmental faculty, committee assignments, advisee lists, creative thinking test statistics, and graduate exams.

Series 2. - C:8/20/2 (A86-119)
This Series contains records gathered by Department of Educational Counseling Psychology Professor Corrine S. Cope, (ca. 1968-1986). Included in the Series are documents pertaining to "Short-Term Training in Vocational Rehabilitation," graduate studies in rehabilitation counseling, "National Grant on Short-Term Training" information, manuscripts and publications by Professor Cope, and selected course materials.

Note to Researcher: Dr. Cope came to UMC in 1968 as a Counseling Psychologist. She was admitted to the Doctoral Faculty in 1974 and became the Project Director of Region VII Short-Term Training in Vocational Rehabilitation, an HEW competitive grant. In 1975, she became Professor and Director of Training for Graduate Studies in Rehabilitation Counseling.

Series 3. - C:8/20/NP (A90-124; A98-43)
This Series contains administrative records of the Department of Educational Counseling Psychology, (ca. 1966-1990). Included in this Series are meeting minutes, departmental correspondence, Counseling Center reports, lists of departmental alumni, lists of degrees awarded, site visits and evaluations, testing results, departmental reports, as well as materials relating to the National Study of Guidance Introduction and the Wellman Project.

Series 4 - C:8/20/NP (A90-69)
This Series contains records created and received by University of Missouri College of Education's Department of Educational Counseling and Psychology Professor Robert Callis. Callis began his career at UMC in 1948 and was elected Professor Emeritus after his death in 1990. This Series consists of his work with the Sanford Achievement Test (TASK), the Minnesota Teacher Attitude Inventory, development of the College Auto-Biographical Inventory (CABI), and the Counseling and Personnel Services (CAPS). This Series also contains correspondence, (1960-1983), speeches, (1965-1971), and publications, (1954-1972). Also included in the Series are posed group photographs of the Department of Educational Counseling and Psychology Department faculty, staff, and students, (ca. 1965).

Series 5. - C:8/20/3
This Series contains printed and duplicated material created by the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology, (1977, 1979-1980, 2005). The records consist of departmental program brochures, flyers, and newsletters. Also included in the Series are Research Reports from the Tailored Testing Research Laboratory, (1977, 1979-1980), and a copy of the University of Missouri School Psychology Program Student Handbook, (2010-2011).

Series 6. - C:8/20/4 (A11-93)
This Series contains research records from the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology, (1983-1999). The records consist of research interviews and other records relating to a series published in the Journal of Counseling and Development entitled "Life-Lines: Interviews with Pioneers in Counseling and Human Development." Many of the records originated with Department of Psychology faculty member P. Paul Heppner, who served as editor for the journal article series.
