Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group holds records of the MU College of Arts and Science's Department of Chemistry. Included in this Series are minute books, correspondence, petitions, reports, departmental histories, grant files, and photographs of departmental faculty and facilities.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:6/17/1
This Series contains records of the UMC Department of Chemistry (ca. 1910-1958). Included in this Series are correspondence files, a 1931 Petition for a Radium Institute, three minute books (which contain records of departmental committees), and a copy of History and Directory, Delta Chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma, compiled by George W. Eckert (ca. 1937). Also included in the Series is a photocopy of Report by the Curators to the Governor (ca. 1874), which includes "Contributions from the Laboratory of the State University."

Series 2. - C:6/17/2 (A76-23)
This Series contains a history, with photographs, of the UMC Department of Chemistry (ca. 1894-1975). Included in this Series is a copy of A History of the Department of Chemistry, University of Missouri-Columbia, 1843-1975, by Professor Dorothy V. Nightingale. Included in the history are photographs of the Chemistry building (from 1894 to 1975), Department Chairs (from 1910), and resumes of select past faculty members.

This Series contains administrative records of the University of Missouri Department of Chemistry, (1991-2019). This Series contains grant files [RESTRICTED] from the faculty of the Department of Chemistry, (1979-2004). The grant records consist of applications, data forms, proposals, and correspondence. In addition to grants files for external funding sources, the records include applications to University funding sources such as the Research Council, Summer Research Fellowships, and PRIME.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
