Record Group: 6 C Scope and Content Note This Record Sub-Group contains the personal papers of Frederick E. Shane, noted Missouri artist and member of the faculty of the Department of Art at the University of Missouri-Columbia (ca 1932-1971). Included in this Sub-Group are his personal and professional correspondence, memos, articles, and reports. These papers relate to such topics as the exhibit and sale of his paintings, his work for the United States Army during World War II, and the design and painting of a mural for the Post Office in Eldon, Missouri. Information concerning the Department of Art during Shane's tenure as Chairman, records relating to the publication of a book of his paintings, and biographical and financial documents are also included in the Sub-Group. Among Shane's collected correspondence are letters to and from such notable individuals as: Shaemas O'Sheel, Irving Stone, Thomas Hart Benton, Randall Davey, Adolph Dehn, Archie Musick, and Mort Walker.
