This Record Sub-Group contains records from the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Human Environmental Sciences (formerly the College of Home Economics). The bulk of records in this Sub-Group were created or received by Dr. Martha Jo Martin (deceased), Assistant Dean of the College of Human Environmental Sciences (HES). Included in the Sub-Group are her course materials, speeches, personal papers, administrative files, personal and administrative correspondence, placement reports, lists of HES graduates, programs for HES "Recognition Banquets" and HES "Spring Citation of Merit Banquets," as well as records of the annual HES "Alumni, Students and Friends Weekend." Also included in this Sub-Group are records pertaining to HES Commencements, Gamma Sigma Delta (Human Environmental Sciences students' organization) Initiations, the Margaret Mangel Lecture Series, the HES Award for Distinguished Service, minute books and related records of the University of Missouri Home Economics Association (founded as University of Missouri Home Economics Club), 1931-1984, containing minutes of regular meetings and executive council meetings, organizational budget ledgers, 1926-1961, and scrapbooks from 1970-1976, 1979-1980, and 1986-1986. In addition, this Sub-Group contains College of Human Environmental Sciences memorabilia associated with the College's name change, in 1988.

Historical Note - College of Human Environmental Sciences

Series Descriptions:

This Sub-Group is divided into seven separate records series. Arrangement within each series manifests the original order of the creating office.

Series One contains the administrative records of the Assistant Dean's Office. Among the administrative records in Series One are budget and planning files, faculty hiring, tenure and promotion records, as well as graduate placement program information. Series Two contains files relating to awards and honors given by the College of Human Environmental Sciences to graduates and alumni.

Series Three consists of records regarding the honoring of College of Human Environmental Sciences alumni and maintaining and establishing development contacts with former students and graduates. Series Four is made up of records about the operation of the Home Economics Honor Society, Gamma Sigma Delta.

Series Five contains Dean Martin's speeches, professional correspondence, and teaching materials for course she developed and taught. Series Six consists of the bound minute books, the president's journal, fiscal ledgers, and scrapbooks of the student organization called the Home Economics Club and later renamed the MU Home Economics Association.

Series Seven consists of a variety of administrative material regarding the graduates and program development within the College.
