Scope and Content Note

This Record Sub-Group contains records created and received by the MU School of Social Work. Included in this Sub-Group are accreditation records, faculty meeting files, faculty personnel files, faculty research, scholarship records, policy and procedural records, internal review materials, manuals, handbooks, and correspondence and records relating to the effort to save the social work program from closing in the early 1980s.

Historical Note: In September 1988 the College of Public and Community Services was dissolved and its programs merged into other units within two colleges. At that time, the School of Social Work was transferred under the College of Home Economics, and the College was renamed the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

This Series contains records of the UMC College of Human Environmental Sciences' School of Social Work, (1962-1997). Included in this Series are: accreditation reports; committee reports; self-study reports; annual reports, (1978-1994); accreditation files, (1962-1987); policy and procedure manual, (1978); faculty personnel files [RESTRICTED], (1995-1996); recruitment files for the director of the Kansas City program, (1981-1982); "Save the School" documentation concerning countering the proposal to move the Department of Social Work from Columbia to Saint Louis, (1992); Educational Policy Committee notebook, (1994-1996); Faculty notebook, (1996-1998); letters against closing the department and other documentation, (1982); faculty meetings, (1991-1996); self-study by the faculty, (1982); Accreditation materials, (1987-1997); CWSC Council on Social Work Education accrediting body materials; Sword Files; Internal Review, (1990); CWSE self-study, (1978-1995).

This Series contains terminated faculty records from the School of Social Work, (ca. 1965-2008, bulk 1990-2000). The files [RESTRICTED] contain evaluations, correspondence, personnel forms, promotion and tenure records, curricula vitae, and other similar records. Some of the files included in this Series are for Adjunct Instructors. This Series also includes the administrative search files (no personnel records) for the North Central Coordinator and the Field Program Director, (2007).

This Series contains general printed and duplicated material of the School of Social Work, (ca. 1950-Present). The material includes, among other record types, brochures, flyers, booklets, pamphlets, newsletters, application forms, cards, and magazines pertaining to recruitment and admissions, academic programs, development, the Adoption Resource Center, and general information. Some of the titles are: School of Social Work News and Social Work Notes.

Series 8. - C:5/13/8 (A13-46)
This Series contains administrative records of the School of Social Work, (1989-2011). The records pertain to the accreditation or reaffirmation process by the Council on Social Work Education for the School's Bachelor and Master of Social Work programs. The records consist of self-studies, reports, reviews, and attendant administrative records. The Series also contains an annual report for 1988-1989 and records concerning the restructuring of the School.

This Series contains administrative records of the School of Social Work at the University of Missouri, (1990-2008). The records consist mainly of scholarship awards [RESTRICTED] and budgets. Also included in this Series are administrative records pertaining to the proposal for a Doctoral Program, (1999-2000), Faculty/Staff Consulting Reports, (2004-2005), a Bachelor in Social Work Assessment Report, (1989-2002), and space issues, (2002-2003). The Series also contains VHS video tapes regarding family violence, (1994), and the 75th Anniversary of the School of Social Work, (1994).

Series 10. - C:5/13/10 (A16-61)
This Series contains faculty research records of the School of Social Work at the University of Missouri, (1998-2000, 2016). The records consist of reports from a Sexual Assault Needs Assessment Study conducted by Dr. Marjorie R. Sable for the Missouri Department of Health's Division of Maternal, Child and Family Health and subcontracted with Horizon Research Services. The study included telephone and campus surveys and resulted in numerous reports, including analysis of variance, focus groups, and interviews. The Series also includes a curriculum vitae for Dr. Sable, (2016).
