Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records generated by the Office of the Director of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Included in the Sub-Group are correspondence files, Director's notes, departmental histories, equipment inventories, departmental policy manuals, scholarship reports, recruiting manuals, meeting minutes of the Scholarship Committee, meeting minutes of the Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, budget and income records, publishing joint venture records, MU lettermen lists, eligibility forms, meeting minutes of the "Big Eight" conference athletic directors, coaches, and chief executive officers, drug testing procedure files, athletes' letters of intent, Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) records, and files pertaining to an NCAA investigation of men's basketball.
Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - C:31/1/1 (A81-49)
This Series contains administrative files created and received by the Director's Office of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, (ca. 1946-1979). The files relate to such topics as departmental scholarships and awards, departmental policy manuals, certification of grades and eligibility, the Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, the Scholarship Committee, budget and income records, and meetings of the "Big Eight" conference athletic directors, coaches, and chief executive officers. Also included in the Series are listings of lettermen for baseball, basketball, football, golf, swimming, tennis, track, and wrestling, (1957-1978)

Series 2. - C:31/1/2 (A83-92)
This Series contains Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Director's Office records compiled by early MU Athletic Director, Chester L. Brewer, (ca. 1890-1924). Included in this Series are Brewer's "personal notes," giving historical information on the early years of Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Missouri as well as the organization of MU's Athletic Association, in 1890, and of the Football League, in 1891. Brewer's notes also provide accounts of each year's games, including dates, locations, rosters of team members, final scores, and comments on outstanding plays and other notable occurrences.

Series 3. - C:31/1/NP (A91-41)
This Series consists of Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Director's Office records, (1985). Included in this Series are letters of intent, award letters, team rosters, and records related to the W. Powers Fund, the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee, and the MU Provost's Office. Also included are women's sports award lists, men's sports scholarship books, and "green slips."

Included in the Series are files covering Summer Semester Scholarships awarded in both women's and men's athletics.

This Series contains Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Director's Office records dealing with the 1991-1992 NCAA investigation of men's intercollegiate basketball. Included in this Series are correspondence, search records, banquet records, a 1988 alumni list, applications for assistance, a 1992 men's basketball compliance report, and an NCAA review of rules and regulations.

This Series contains recruiting records including the Master Recruiting Books and academic records, (1992-1993). The Series also includes cross country and track records (1990-1993).

Series 9. - C:31/1/NP (A00-99)
This Series contains records of the UMC Intercollegiate Athletic Department, (1989-1994). It contains football recruiting and conditioning records along with baseball and other sports recruiting logs, recruiting tests (1991), and the rules test for the Bylaw 17 playing season including a notebook of materials for sports sponsorship reports (1989-1990). Also included are minutes of the Faculty Athletics Representatives meeting(1993); recruiting guides from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (1993-1994); summaries of official visits; lists of prospects; certification of coaches (1989-1991, 1993-1994); rules education, interpretation and compliance; countable athletic hours for men's and women's sports as well as off-season countable hours; and reports of individual scholarship awards for both men's and women's sports. Some of these reports, which are bound in notebooks, are handwritten while others are computer generated (1991-1994).

Series 10. - C:31/1/NP (A00-170)
This Series contains materials received by the Office of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, (1989-1990). The Series consists of records created by Neff Productions of St. Louis during the production of 100 Years of Missouri Football and includes proposals, press releases, interviews, correspondence, memoranda, budget worksheets, and various production logs, lists, and scripts. It also includes a color slide of the 100 Years of Missouri Football logo, an Eva-Tone sound-sheet of the 1973 Marching Mizzou and a 1990 Prospectus autographed by Johnny Roland.

This Series contains records created by the Office of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, (1995-2002). The records consist of completed "Reporting of Institutional Data for the NCAA Gender Equity Survey" forms produced in compliance with the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA). Items addressed by the surveys include scholarship distribution and amounts, coaching salaries, and revenue by sport.

Series 12 - C:31/1/6 (A04-34)
This Series contains records created or received by the Office of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, (1992-1998). The records consist of building project files, including plans, schematics, and architectural submittals by Ellerbe Becket Architects for the following: the basketball arena, (1997), renovation of Memorial Stadium, (1996), and the Tom Taylor Building, (1992). Also included in the Series are Norm Stewart basketball recruiting materials [RESTRICTED], (1993-1994), and Athletic Department correspondence and memoranda regarding in-state residency for athletes, non-resident scholarships, and Big 12 amateur deregulation.

This Series contains administrative records created or received by the Office of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, (1959-2001). The records consist of the following types and topics: financial reports, (1959-1972); NCAA Certification, (1998), including timetables, self-study material, and correspondence; NCAA constitution and by-laws interpretation; certificates of eligibility, (1976-1984) [RESTRICTED]; student-athlete statements, (1975-1981); internal review of the Total Person Program, (1990); Report to the Chancellor regarding academic performance for all sports, (1986-1988); recruiting books [RESTRICTED] for football and other sports, (1982-1988, 1993-1996); and women's basketball game scorebooks. This Series also includes portions of a season scrapbook for women's soccer, (2001).
