Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Department of Horticulture. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence files, administrative working files, committee meeting minutes, research reports, survey results, faculty publications, policy working papers, departmental rule revision proposals, news clippings, brochures, special event rosters, professional conference proceedings, and flower judging forms. Also included in this Sub-Group are group photographs, scripts for radio programs, blueprints, applications for federal research funding, faculty committee reports, and banquet programs.
Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - C:3/28/1 (A75-48; A79-39)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Horticulture, (1956-1974). Included in this Series are correspondence files, administrative working files, and curriculum files. Correspondence topics include business with other University of Missouri-Columbia colleges and departments, student concerns and inquiries, departmental activities, and reference questions directed to the department. Much of the correspondence that comprises the bulk of this Series was created by or under the direction of Professor Raymond Schroeder, Department of Horticulture Chair from 1950 to 1974.

Series 2. - C:3/28/2 (A77-32)
This Series contains committee records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Horticulture, (1934-1975). Included in this Series are committee meeting minutes, research reports, survey results, faculty publications, policy working papers, departmental rule revision proposals, and related news clippings. The materials included in this Series were generated by committees on which Department of Horticulture Chair, Professor Raymond A. Schroeder served. Committees included are the Sub-Committee on Pension and Retirement, the University Policy Committee, the Committee on Environmental Health, and the Water Resources and Research Committee. Also included in the Series are some materials pertaining to the American Association of University Professors.

Series 3. - C:3/28/3 (A80-2; A94-26)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Horticulture, (1939-1981). Many of the records in this Series were created by, or in cooperation with, Professor Emeritus of Horticulture, James E. Smith. Much of this material is related to Professor Smith's efforts to develop a standard system for flower grading. Included in the Series are news clippings, brochures, special event rosters, flower judging forms, and manuscripts for two articles and a book by Smith, entitled, "Seasonable Suggestion," "Profit Prophecies," and Flower Arranging: A Manual. Also included in the Series are group photographs, scripts for radio programs, blueprints, applications for federal research funding, faculty committee reports, and files pertaining to students for whom Professor Smith was academic advisor.

Series 4. - C:3/28/5 (A94-40)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Horticulture, (1959). Included in this Series is a program for the 5 January 1959, Missouri State Horticultural Society Centennial Dinner, containing a list of those who gave speeches at the event. Also included in the Series are 29 informal, black-and-white photographs of participants.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Horticulture, (1960-1991). Included in this Series are correspondence files created by Interim Department Chair, Professor Delbert D. Hemphill, and copies of two works by Hemphill, entitled Missouri Lead Study (two volumes) and Handbook of Pest Management in Agriculture.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Horticulture, (1978). The Series contains a plaque presented to the Department by the Horticulture Centennial Scholarship Fund.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Horticulture, (1914-2002). Materials include research into topics such as Tomatoes, a historical look at the Department of Horticulture, and proceedings of professional conferences.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
