Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Record Group contains records of organizations and clubs affiliated officially or otherwise with the University of Missouri-Columbia Faculty. The records in this Sub-Group consist of meeting minutes and agendas, organizational files, bulletins and newsletters, rosters, photographic records, copies of media articles, and memoranda. In some instance the organization or club may include staff or other non-faculty members.

UMC; University Faculty; University Clubs; The Fortnightly Club Records
This Series has been enlarged to a full inventory. Please follow this link to reach the inventory. This collection contains the files of the University of Missouri-Columbia Fortnightly Club, a social organization open to wives of UMC faculty and later, female faculty and staff (1948-1991).

Series 2. - C:2/9/4 (A11-108; A12-52; A19-52)
This Series contains records created by the University of Missouri-Columbia MU Retirees Association (MURA), (1989-2020). The collection consists of presidents' papers, meeting minutes and agendas, membership and officer lists, income and expense reports, by-laws, certificates of Amendment and Restatement, administrative records, and newsletters, directories, and other printed and duplicated material. Series 2 also contains records of the University of Missouri Retirees Association Four-Campus Leadership Team which maintains communication between the campuses' retirees associations.

Note to Researcher: The impetus of MURA, begun 03/20/1990 as UMCRA, was to provide representation for the beneficiaries of the University's Pension Trust Fund. Members may be retired staff and faculty members, pre-retirees, or spouses.

Series 3. - C:2/9/NP (04/2001)
This Series contains organizational records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Resident Wives Club of the College of Agriculture (ca. 1966-1968 and 1989-1997). The earlier records consists of meeting minutes (many undated); copies of media articles; black/white photographs, negatives, and a slide; and an annual schedule booklet (1967-1968). The latter records consist of newsletters and event flyers (1989-1994), and memoranda concerning the conversion of the club's short term loan fund into a permanently endowed fund (1995-1997).

Historical Note: The Resident Wives Club was organized "to promote friendship and help new wives (of the resident faculty members of the College of Agriculture) become acquainted." The organization was primarily social in nature.

Series 4. - C:2/9/3 (A10-62)
This Series contains records of the Faculty/Staff Golf League, (1975-2008). The records consist of scoring data for Golf League tournaments, League rosters, correspondence, newsletters, (1996-1999), flyers, and Golf League Rules and Regulations, (1985).

Note to Researcher: The Faculty/Staff Golf League was founded in 1965. The League is divided into the Black Conference and the Gold Conference. Divisions were added in 1976. According to the League's 1985 "Rules, Regulations, and Procedures," eligibility is extended to "All full time employees, Graduate Research Assistants, Graduate Teaching Assistants, and retired employees of the University of Missouri, University-Wide full-time employees officed in Columbia, employees of agencies assigned to full-time duties at ... [the] University of Missouri and others approved by the Golf Committee." The Golf Leagues maintains no official affiliation with the University of Missouri.
Note to Archivist: The records in Series 4 were donated by Rex Dillow, former staff member in Facilities Management and long-time Secretary of the Golf League.

Series 5. - C:2/9/5 (A21-21)
This Series contains records created and received by the University of Missouri's Hispanic and Latin American Faculty and Staff Association, (1999-2011). The records consist of Board meeting records, correspondence and administrative records, printed and duplicated material, including copies of the Association's "Young Authors Bilingual Poetry Anthology" and "Noticias", event records, membership lists, the Association's constitution, and photographs.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
