Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence files, self study reports, accreditation reports, departmental press releases, research protocols, personal recommendations, papers and publications by departmental faculty, space and facility allocation records, committee files, faculty files, and staff meeting minutes.
Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - C:14/27/2 (A95-90; A95-118; A96-17)
This Series holds administrative files of the UMC School of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine (1969-1991). Included in this Series are correspondence files, self study and accreditation reports, press releases, committee files, and space and facility allocation records for the Department's various divisions.

Series 2. - C:14/27/3 (A95-114; A97-21)
This Series contains correspondence of Dr. Greg Flaker, Director of the UMC Department of Internal Medicine's Cardiovascular Laboratory (ca. 1983-1989). Included in the Series is correspondence relating to patient care, research protocols, personal recommendations, and scholarly papers presented by Dr. Flaker.

Series 3. - C:14/27/1 (A89-64)
This Series holds copies of journal articles and other works by UMC Department of Internal Medicine's Division of Gastroenterology faculty member, Dr. J. Ned Smith (ca. 1956-1988). Included are his An Outline of Gastroenterology and Essentials of Gastroenterology, as well as six handouts for "Medical Grand Rounds" and several student recommendations written by Dr. Smith.

This Series holds records of committees of the MU Department of Internal Medicine (1982-1989). Included are Executive Committee meeting minutes, Clinic Chairmen's Committee meeting minutes, as well as personnel files, self study files, committee correspondence, and house-staff files.

The records are from the Office of the Chairman and include the following types and topics: Promotion and Tenure files [RESTRICTED]; correspondence; Nephrology; women's health; Clinic directors' meetings; Utilization Review Committee records; strategic planning; and space planning. This Series also contains housestaff photographs, (1981-1987), and chief resident photographs, (1994-1998).

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
