Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records created or received by the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services or its preceding administrative unit, the Office of the Provost for Administration. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence, committee records, Board of Curators meeting records, chancellor's staff meeting records, MU Planning Council meeting records, topical files, campus project records, Business Policy and Procedure Manual revisions and updates, and general administrative records.

This Series contains records of the UMC Office of Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services (1965-1983). Included in this Series are correspondence, office working files, and general administrative files. Topics in this Series include university-owned buildings and other physical assets, acquisitions, budgets, fees, tuition, residency rules, repair and renovation of facilities, Affirmative Action regulations, Intercollegiate Athletics, Residential Life, KOPN radio, coed residence halls, malaria immunization, off campus organizations and associations, university committees, the Resource Management Council, the Advisory Group on Management Information Development and Utilization, and Dean of Extension John McGowan.

Series 7 - C:1/26/NP (A00-60; A01-24)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Office of Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services (VCAS) (1983-1995, bulk 1994-1995). Topical files include legislation; budget; business services; master planning and space projections; campus buildings, facilities, and landscaping; educational, administrative, campus, and off-campus organizations; student insurance and credit cards; Dr. Harlan Bareither; Campus Planning Consultant Jack Robinson; Bonni Bourne; and Consultant Edwin Coate. Also included in the Series are search committee records; annual reports; correspondence concerning the Show-Me-State Games, KOMU-TV, intercollegiate athletics, and various MU schools and colleges. Meeting minutes and supporting documentation are included for: the Mizzou Credit Union Annual meetings and Board of Directors meetings (1987-1992); Administrative Management Council meetings (1988-1993); VCAS Officers meetings (1983-1995); and Chancellor's Staff meetings (1986-1993). Also in this Series are records of the Alumni Center Building Committee (1988-1991) consisting of proposals, a program statement, Board Committee records, and correspondence, and planning documents. Also included in the Series are records of the Missouri Innovation Center (Missouri Ingenuity, Inc.), an organization authorized by the Missouri Legislature (1983) to facilitate the flow and application of technology from the University of Missouri and local industry into the local economy by encouraging and supporting entrepreneurial business ventures. Records of Missouri Ingenuity include correspondence (1987-1989; 1993-1995), and Board of Directors meeting minutes and supporting documentation (1986-1990; 1993-1996).

Types of records and topics included in the Series are: Division and System correspondence; Policy and Procedure Manual updates and changes; business records regarding property, accounting, campus mail; Campus Computing records concerning Desktop Enhancement, consulting, Information Technology Support; Campus Facilities; KOMU-TV; University Catering; University Police correspondence and grievances [RESTRICTED]; and the University of Missouri-Columbia Health Systems Board. Committee and Council records found in the Series include: Parking and Transportation; Health Oversight; Hearnes Center; Intercollegiate Athletics; Radiation Safety; Administrative Systems Project Steering Committee; Alumni Center Management Committee; Council of Deans; Faculty Council; Human Resources Advisory Council; the Administrative Management Council, (1994-1997); and the Strategic Planning Advisory Council. This Series contains administrative records created and received in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, (ca. 1970-2001). The records pertain to the University of Missouri-Columbia Business Policy and Procedure Manual (BPPM) and consist of revisions and updates to the manual while it was still being produced in paper format. Also included among the records are background files on the design of the manual as well as a maintenance manual for the BPPM. The Series also includes copies of the BPPM as distributed to units across campus.

This Series contains administrative records created and received by John F. McGowan, Provost for Administration, (1966-1977). The records consist of the following types and topics: correspondence, memoranda, reports, the Academic Planning Council and its Evaluation Steering Committee, position search committees [RESTRICTED], academic plans for schools and colleges, University Role and Scope statements and reactions, United Way, as well as a few of McGowan's consulting and teaching records. The Series also contains records, (1966-1972), from the period just prior to McGowan's tenure as Provost for Administration when he served as Dean of University Extension.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
