Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism's Freedom of Information Center. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence files, general administrative records, copies of the Freedom of Information Center Publication, and the Freedom of Information Center Report, the F.O.I. Digest. Also included in the Sub-Group is a collection of speeches, entitled "A Freedom of Information Retrospective in Observance of the Twentieth Year of the F.O.I. Center, UMC 1978," concerning the history and development of the Freedom of Information Center.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:11/7/1 and C:11/7/2 (A84-85)
This Series contains issues 1 through 175 of the Freedom of Information Center Publication (1958-1967), issues 176 through 437, 479, 482 and 488 of the Freedom of Information Center Report, (1967-1984), and volumes 1 through 24 of the F.O.I. Digest, (1959-1982). Also included in this Series is a bound collection of speeches given during Journalism Week observances in 1978, entitled "A Freedom of Information Retrospective in Observance of the Twentieth Year of the F.O.I. Center, UMC 1978" and copies of publications of the Freedom of Information Foundation, (1973-1977).

Series 2. - C:11/7/NP (A96-54)
This Series contains correspondence files and administrative records of the UMC School of Journalism's Freedom of Information Center, (1958-1995). Included in this Series are records pertaining to budgetary, role and scope, and long-range development concerns, as well as every aspect of the day-to-day operation of the F.O.I. Center.

Note to Researcher: This Series is currently unprocessed. Until it is processed and inventoried, portions may not be fully available to researchers.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
