Scope and Content Note
This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri President's subordinate Office of Institutional Research. Included in this Sub-Group are correspondence, microfiche, questionnaires, salary surveys, enrollment statistics, surveys of degrees awarded, records relating to the Missouri Commission on Higher Education (MCHE), records of accreditation by the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC), UM-System press releases, general System information (intended for promotional booklets and brochures), organizational structure charts, Association of American Universities (AAU) credit enrollment reports and faculty workload surveys, as well as reports comparing the University of Missouri with other prominent institutions of higher learning. Also included in the Sub-Group are course inventories, requests for information about the UM-System, records relating to development of the Student Information System (SIS), Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS) materials, MU-System wage and salary guidelines, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) records, National School Board Association (NSBA) correspondence, Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation (CSEE) records, National Caucus of Black School Board Members (NCBSM) records, Missouri School Boards Association (MSBA) Campaign Committee records, Show Me State Games records, and community relations materials, publications, grievances files, and intelligence test samples from the Columbia, Missouri, Public Schools.

Historical Note:
A Director of Institutional Research for the University of Missouri was first appointed in 1968. This position was initially placed under the administrative control of the UM-System Vice President for Research. In 1969, administrative oversight of the Director of Institutional Research was transferred to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Before the end of 1969, however, oversight by the Vice President for Academic Affairs was ended and the Office of Institutional Research was created. The Director of this new office reported directly to the University President.
Series Descriptions:
Series 1. - UW:4/101/1 (A76-19; A78-6; A80-15; A83-31)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Office of Institutional Research (1954-1980). Some of the earliest records in this Series were created or received before the official creation of the UM Office of Institutional Research. The majority of these records were created or received by Director of Institutional Research, Joe L. Saupe (1968-1988). Included in this Series are correspondence, questionnaires, salary surveys, enrollment statistics, surveys of degrees awarded, records relating to the Missouri Commission on Higher Education (MCHE), records of accreditation by the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC), System press releases, records relating to development of the UM Student Information System (SIS), and general UM-System statistics and information (intended for booklets and brochures promoting the University).

Series 2. - UW:4/101/2 (A78-7)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Office of Institutional Research (1964). The records in this Series, while pertaining to institutional research by the University of Missouri, were created or received before the official creation of the UM Office of Institutional Research. Included in this Series are a report on the status of research activity at University of Missouri-Rolla's School of Engineering (in comparison to the engineering schools of other American universities) and appendices containing research program summaries from individual departments. This report was to be combined with reports from the other UM-System campuses and used by UM-System Dean of Research, Raymond Peck, in an appearance before a congressional committee. Also included in the Series is a transmittal letter addressed to, "The Honorable Edward V. Long, United States Senate."

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Office of Institutional Research (1971-1974). Included in the Series are 16 microfiche containing general correspondence, reports, and statistics relating to work of the Missouri Commission on Higher Education (MCHE) and the Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS).

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri Office of Institutional Research (1983-1987). Included in this Series are administrative correspondence, wage and salary guidelines, and Equal Employment Opportunity compliance records (relating to student employees as well as faculty and staff). Also included in the Series are National School Board Association (NSBA) correspondence, Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation records, National Caucus of Black School Board Members (NCBSM) records, Missouri School Boards Association (MSBA) Campaign Committee records, Columbia (Missouri) Public Schools' community relations records, publications, correspondence, grievances, and intelligence test samples.

This Series contains records created by the University of Missouri Office of Institutional Research and Planning, (1983-2012). The records consist of various reports and surveys created and submitted for the US Department of Education and the Missouri Department of Higher Education regarding admissions, enrollment, financial aid, and other faculty, staff, or student-related data. Among the reports and surveys are those for the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, (IPEDS). The Series also includes a number of specific studies and analyses produced by the Office of Institutional Research for the system campuses.

Series 6. - UW:4/101/6 (A07-13)
This Series contains records created by the University of Missouri Office of Institutional Research and Planning, (1991-1995). The records consist of statistical analyses, reports, and surveys regarding Association of American Universities Data Exchange (AAUDE) Credit Enrollment, faculty workload, Paulien & Associates Engineering Study, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Student Information System (SIS), and other faculty, staff, or student-related data. Many of these records are in the form of computer printouts.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
