Scope and Content Note

(A98-99)
This Record Sub-Group holds scrapbooks containing printed and duplicated materials of the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Speech and Dramatic Art, and compiled by the Athenean Society. Included within the volumes are photos, newspaper clippings, press releases, and memoranda. The most common items represented are event programs, publicity releases, and announcements. Some biographical information on Speech and Forensic faculty, staff and students and information about debate events are also to be found in this Sub-Group. Announcements include invitations from the Speech Department to attend debates, high school debate conference and tournament press releases, Athenean Society speaking contest press releases, and Office of Public Information releases concerning speaking events and forensic activities.
Note to Researcher: The Department of Speech and Dramatic Art was renamed the Department of Communications in June 1986 when the Theater section of Speech and Dramatic Art broke away to become part of the School of Fine Arts, Department of Theatre. Record Sub-Group 38 is used for this collection because the great majority of the records contained therein were created when the Department of Speech and Dramatic Art did exist. See Sub-Group 46, School of Fine Arts, for other Theatre related records.
