This Record Sub-Group contains a sampling of the personal and professional papers of University of Missouri-Columbia Extension Education Department Chairman, John Gross. Biographical Note:

Professor John Gross received his BS in Agriculture from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1942. He earned his MS in Extension Education, also at UMC, in 1962. In 1967, the University of Nebraska, at Lincoln, awarded Gross a Ph.D. in Adult Education. Gross served as Clinton County, Missouri Balanced Farming Agent from 1955 to 1959, and as Harrison County Extension Director from 1959 to 1965. From 1967 to 1971, Gross taught Extension Education courses at UMC, first as an Assistant and then an Associate Professor. He was chosen as Department Chairman in 1971 and served in that position through 1982. The focus of much of Professor Gross's scholarship was evaluation of Extension Education. He also edited a series of departmental reviews entitled "Training and Staff Development Special Report" (this Sub-Group contains numbers 4-5, 19-21, 23-30, and 32-46). Gross was also appointed by UMC to the North Central Computer Institute Evaluation Committee which produced a "Survey of Computer Use by North Central Land Grant College of Agriculture Faculty."
