This Sub-Group contains materials related to the establishment and early development of the University of Missouri-Columbia's Office of Instructional Design (OID). These administrative records were created or received by the Director's Office of Instructional Design during the tenure of Director Barton L. Griffith. Included in this Sub-Group is information regarding development of instructional television (and Office of Instructional Television, O.I.T.V.) at University of Missouri campuses as well as assistance given to foreign countries (Bolivia, India, Brazil and Africa) in the development of systems of educational instruction. Also included within this Sub-Group are records regarding the design of broadcast facilities, North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools (NCA) accreditation evaluations, and development of programming.

The Sub-Group additionally includes records pertaining to cooperative programs with Lincoln University, Educational Resources Development Planning, FM Amplified Telephone Advisory (FATS group), development of FM Amplified Telephone (FATS), Educational Telephone Service and FM Radio Sideband projects, Committee on Instructional Technology of North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and University of Mid-America projects (UMA). Material in this Sub-Group include but are not limited to meeting minutes, project notes and records, memos and correspondence, grant information, accreditation and evaluation records, and reports.
