Scope and Content Note

This Record Sub-Group contains administrative records created by the Editorial Division within the School of Journalism's undergraduate degree program. Records in this Sub-Group include personnel records, degree assessment reports, promotion and tenure material, faculty evaluations and reports, departmental committee files, and departmental correspondence and memoranda.

Series Descriptions

Series 1 - C:11/11/NP (A99-92; A00-84)
This Series holds the personnel records of former faculty of the UMC School of Journalism's Editorial Office, (1983-1999).

Note to Researcher: Series 1 is currently unprocessed. Until completely processed and inventoried, portions may not be fully available to researchers. Series 2 - C:11/11/1 (A03-99)
This Series contains records of the Editorial Division of the School of Journalism's undergraduate degree program, (1993-1999). The records consist of major field assessment reports and exit interview statistics for the following major emphasis areas: News-editorial, Magazine, and Photojournalism.

Series 3. - C:11/11/2 (A04-118; A09-45)
This Series contains records created and received by the Editorial Department, (1981-2003). The records include the following types and topics: general departmental correspondence and memoranda, (1982-1999); award files; Missouri Publishing Association, (1985-1990); faculty annual reports [RESTRICTED], faculty and chair evaluations [RESTRICTED], promotion and tenure files [RESTRICTED]; curriculum proposals; department by-laws, (1981, 1988); and various meeting and committee files, including faculty meetings, Promotion and Tenure Committee [RESTRICTED], Editorial Advisory Committee [RESTRICTED], Curriculum Committee, Computer Committee, and Executive Committee. Also included are various committee and department chairperson election ballots (completed) and results.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
