Inventory Album 1 - Summary of Contents This album is titled: "McFadden's Collection of Stunts and University Scenes at Missouri 1912-1913." Photographs include Stewart Road Bridge; freshmen-sophomore, inter-class fighting (ritual harassment by upper class men); McFadden, classmates, and friends; YMCA and YWCA activities; YMCA Building interiors and students rooms; clubs of students from different counties; campus views and buildings (including views from Jesse Hall dome); Hinkson Creek from Lover's Leap. Contained in this album are images of freshmen stunts and paddle lines; freshmen after buying beanies and being tied up by sophomores; couples (with young man proposing): Broadway during Farmers Week; Columbia Water and Light Plant generator and air compressor; Columbia High School; Annual Military Hop; sports events, including: track teams and track meets, football squads, coaches (Brewer); yell leaders; individual photos of seniors and "M" men; people in grandstands; individual games and scores; press box photographers; bands playing between halves; and the soccer team. Also included are photographs of students in their rooms (having parties, studying, playing cards); military cadets; Rollins Field Gate; KA (Kappa Alpha) fraternity brothers after a fire destroys house; "YMCA Gang"; gymnastics team and stunts; women's basketball teams; Hobo Day activities; scenes from plays - "Fairy Scene", "Ben Greet Players", "Mid Summer Night's Dream," and, "Prunella"; groups of students; freshmen-sophomore confrontation; Phi Del Circus; military cadets, officers and companies; basketball team members' individual photos as well as Coach O. F. Field. There are also images of the toll-gate on Ashland Gravel Road; individual students and couples; "YMCA Bunch"; pool room and game room; Debating Society and Squad; Union Literary Society; county clubs; Sunday School Classes and "Preachers" (Missouri Bible School); various clubs; St. Patrick's Day activities; Practice Court - Law School; YMCA court scene; Junior Prom; Savitar Editor Paul Thompson (ca 1913); gymnastics students and coaches - Schulte and Field; wrestling and boxing; track teams and events; baseball teams, games, and individual photos; girls baseball; Chinese baseball team; Colorado Debate and Texas Debate and Kansas Debate - individuals. Lastly, this Album contains photographs of Governor Major raising the flag in front of Laws Observatory; University of Missouri President Hill, Governor Major, and Lieutenant Eby; high school track and field meet; "Hobo Convention" activities; June Fete (graduation and crowning of queen); The Piper and "The Coburn Players," Henry V plays; Farmers' Fair activities; a gathering of students from across the United States, at Chicago. Album 2 - Summary of Contents The second album is entitled, "V. McFadden M.U. Scenes and Stunts 1913-1914; Old Missouri, Fair Missouri Dear Old Varsity. Ours Are Hearts That Fondly Love Thee. Here's A Health to Thee." Photos include campus scenes, buildings and views from Jesse Hall dome; sorority and fraternity houses; YMCA; Columbia Elks House; freshmen-sophomore battles and stunts (including photo of poster proclaiming, "HEED' Cringing Neophytes"); courtship and proposing, "Pushing Penny"; dance line; fighting for bags (contest). Also included in this album are images of football squad; coaches Brewer and Schulte; yell leaders; individual photographs of team members; Women's Christian Temperance Union (WTCU) Convention; football games; grandstand and bands; shirt-tail parades; visit to Stephens College; parades down Broadway with "old 'Grads"' and "old 'M' Men'; freshmen burning their caps; cadets in parade; women's stunt, journalists stunt; "Peerade Extra" (parade floats and procession); mass meetings in front of Old Academic Hall Columns before games; cadet companies; Rifle Team, Scabbard and Blade Delegates, and cadets on parade on Francis Quadrangle. Other photographs in this album include YMCA Roomers, Supreme Court and "punishment" (man had been tossed into the swimming pool in the basement), YMCA employment bureau; Smallpox Glee Club (at their departure from Columbia and during their enforced quarantine); students in their rooms studying and having refreshments and parties; various clubs and organizations; Student Senate; University Players and play casts; Bible College students; waiters at Commons; Engineers' clubs and classes; Junior Mechanical Design Room; the Possum Army. This album also contains images of the Farmers' Barn Warming; "Girls Athletic Stunt at Gym"; excavation for a new library; "Votes for Women - Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Burdiek"; St. Patrick's Day activities; Stephens College girls in quarantine [smallpox?]; women's hockey and basketball teams; men's track and field teams and events; tennis squad (men); "M" Girls; dinner at Read Hall; law students on way to bar exams; football teams; coach Graves; basketball teams; individual track team members' photographs; "strong man"; cadets and companies; Farmers County Fair Parade, Pike, events and activities. Finally, this second album includes photographs of the May Queen Procession and Crowning; High School Day track meet; booths at Christian College stunt; Volney McFadden and Arnot Finley printing postcards (at one thousand per hour); McFadden in cap and gown at his graduation; Horse Show - Stunt Week; Pen-and-ink drawing of tiger with net and blunderbuss, in a safari outfit. |
