Scope and Content Note

The considerable variety of documents which comprise this Record Sub-Group were gathered by Ellis Library Special Collections Librarian Lucille Cobb. Items in this Sub-Group include reports, speeches, reprints, announcements, bulletins, programs, newsletters, form letters, handbooks, pamphlets, rosters, and other printed and duplicated materials produced by the University of Missouri and affiliated organizations.

Among these materials are publications from The University of Missouri System administration as well as University of Missouri-Columbia administration, schools, colleges and divisions. Topics in the Sub-Group include UMC's Civil Defense Committee and Campus Disaster Plan, educational television development and applications, listings of buildings, structures, and utility systems student social functions, regulations, copies of Fertile Valley News, From the Terrace and other residence hall publications, and materials relating to student and Student Union activities.

Some course materials (syllabi, outlines, schedules) are included in this Sub-Group, as are faculty meeting minutes, faculty biographies and vitae, faculty research reports, select committee meeting minutes and activities, ROTC training programs, the Fortnightly Club, and a draft of a work tentatively titled The History of Nursing in Missouri, by E. A. Christ.

Biographical Note:

Lucille Marie Cobb was born in 1910, in Ford, Kansas. Miss Cobb received her BA from Wichita State University and her MA from the University of Denver. She also studied at Southwest Missouri State University, in Springfield, Missouri, and at the Graduate School of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Cobb served as a high school teacher in both Missouri and Kansas until accepting the position of Science Librarian at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, in Socorro, New Mexico. In 1956, she became Special Materials Librarian at the University of Missouri-Columbia's Ellis Library, where she worked until retiring, in 1974. Lucille Cobb died in April of 1995, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of 84.

Series Descriptions:

This Record Sub-Group is divided into seven record series. Series Four is further divided into nine sub-series.

Series One contains documents pertaining to University of Missouri System-Wide Administration. Files within Series One pertain to the Board of Curators, various other university officers and committees, and such topics as research activities and the development of instructional television (ca. 1943-1966).

Series Two is a compilation of records and publications generated by the University of Missouri-Columbia Administration. Records within Series Two pertain to the Chancellor, other administrative officers, committees, and alumni and student affairs (ca. 1934-1971).

Series Three pertains to University of Missouri-Columbia faculty, including organizations, public addresses, and publications (ca. 1901-1967). Series Four contains published and duplicated materials generated by the University of Missouri-Columbia schools and colleges (1888-1972). Folders in Series Four contain: newsletters, announcements of lectures, course materials, reading lists and syllabi, form letters, research reports, annual reports, faculty rosters, event programs, and degree requirements among other topically related records.

Series Five contains materials generated by the University of Missouri-Columbia Division of Social and Community Services (ca. 1952-1967). Extension Division publications and documents are to be found within Series Six (ca. 1940-1972).

Series Seven is comprised of items published by University related organizations, such as sororities, fraternities, student associations, and the Fortnightly Club (ca. 1942-1969).
