This Record Sub-Group contains photographs and negatives created by the Office of Public Information. Commencement, convocation, and registration, along with Tap Day, St. Patrick's Day, Farmer's Fair and Jefferson Day are some of the events which are documented in this Sub-Group. There are numerous photographs of the landmarks and buildings on the Columbia campus along with photographs of the construction and dedications of some of those buildings in this Sub-Group. There is one folder of material pertaining to buildings located on the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) campus. The City of Columbia and the area near campus, ca. 1900 are also documented. This Record Sub-Group also contains photographs of state officials including governors and legislators. The governors include James T. Blair, Henry S. Caulfield, John M. Dalton, Phil M. Donnelly and Lloyd Stark, among others, several of whom were honorary degree recipients. Other honorary degree recipients, such as Mark Twain and Blake-More Godwin, are also featured in the Sub-Group. In addition, there are photographs of the Board of Curators and the Board of Visitors, both as a group and as individuals in the Sub-Group.
Note to Researchers: Many of the photographs in this collection have additional information written on the verso. In addition, a number of the photographs in Box 2 are cross referenced to The University of Missouri: An Illustrated History, by James and Vera Olson.

Historical Note:

The University Relations Division was formerly known as the Office of Public Information and Publications. From 1963 through 1968, the Office of Public Information managed the publicity for the Columbia campus and for the UM-System. In 1968, University Information Services became a separate entity which handled publicity for the UM-System.
