Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains administrative records created or received by the University of Missouri President's Office. Included in the Sub-Group are correspondence, reports, brochures, booklets, speeches, legal documents, budget data, budgets, newspaper clippings, minutes of meetings, questionnaires, study results, newsletters, property leases, copies of federal and state legislation, petitions, blueprints, architectural drawings, news releases, and copies of University of Missouri Board of Curators policies. Also included are Board of Curators meeting agendas and supporting materials, as well as materials relating to events hosted at the President's residence and reception center at Providence Point.

This Series contains records received or created by the University of Missouri President's Office (1966-1971). In addition to correspondence, this Series includes reports to the President concerning degree programs, campus planning, enrollment, salaries, budgets, student discipline, political activities of students and faculty, professional educational organizations, and gifts and grants to the University.

Series 3. - UW:4/0/10 (A75-30)
This Series contains records received or created by the University of Missouri President's Office (1954-1974). Included is correspondence with federal and state agencies and organizations such as the Association of American Universities, the American Council on Education, the American Association of University Professors, the Missouri Commission on Higher Education, and the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges. Topics of this correspondence include budgets, appropriations, grants, overproduction of new Ph.D.'s, problems of students, enrollments, long range planning (campus, state-wide, and national), R.O.T.C., campus unrest, educational lobbying, and the purposes and objectives of higher education.

Series 5. - UW:4/0/9 (A75-30)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office pertaining to meetings of the University of Missouri Board of Curators (1970-1973). Included are agendas for Board of Curators meetings, correspondence with individual Curators, and information on matters to be addressed at meetings. Also included in this Series is background information concerning meetings of the University of Missouri Board of Curators Finance Committee.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office (1956-1971). The records in this Series are from Irvin Coyle, Assistant to the President of the University of Missouri, and the bulk of them were created or received by him during the tenure of President Elmer Ellis, 1954-1966. Included are correspondence, reports, and studies, and questionnaires dealing with such topics as enrollments, degrees granted, occupations chosen by graduates, space needs of the University, junior college planning, Missouri Association of Colleges and Universities meetings and publications, accreditation of the University, and educational planning by the Missouri state government.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office (1966-1976). Included are correspondence, reports, and meeting minutes received or created during the tenures of University of Missouri Presidents John C. Weaver (1966-1970) and C. Brice Ratchford (1970-1976). Topics include the concerns of parents and students, budget hearings before the Missouri legislature, meetings of the Council on Public Higher Education, meetings of the Missouri Commission of Higher Education, the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, the Harry S. Truman Library Institute, the St. Louis Research Council, the Freedom of Information Foundation, and the American Council on Education. Also included in this Series are statements to the press made by President C. Brice Ratchford.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri President's Office (1986-1990). Included are correspondence, invitations, programs, guest lists, and planning records relating to events such as breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, and receptions held at the University of Missouri President's residence and reception center at Providence Point, in Columbia, Missouri.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
