Record Group: 18 C Record Sub-Group: 5 Records Title: UMC; University Extension Division; Department of Extension Teaching; Administrative Records Dates: 1963-1974 Volume: 6 cubic feet, 7.5 linear feet Scope and Content Note This Sub-Group holds records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Extension Division's Department of Extension Teaching. Included are correspondence files, class rosters, course syllabi, informational pamphlets and flyers, and letters of recommendation. Also included in this Sub-Group are records pertaining to short courses, courses for university credit, courses for high school credit, payment for courses, grading of courses, withdrawal from courses, Department of Extension Teaching finances and audits, professional organizations, staffing problems, faculty compensation, Board of Curators policies regarding extension courses, staff training sessions, revision of courses, choice of textbooks, recruitment and payment of instructors, correspondence course grading, federal funding of courses, applications for funding, relations with regional colleges and universities, and reports on funded projects. Series Descriptions: Series 1. - C:18/2/1 This Series contains correspondence files of the UMC Extension Division Department of Extension Teaching (1963-1974). The majority of this correspondence was generated or received by Professor Charles H. Koelling, Assistant Director of the University Extension Division in charge of Extension Teaching, and his assistant, James E. Holland. Series 2. - C:18/2/2 (A87-64; A87-78) This Series holds office working files (ca. 1969-1972) created by Assistant Director of the University Extension Division in charge of Extension Teaching, Professor James E. Holland. Included in this Series are files relating to the regional popularity of various Extension-supported courses, teaching assignments for courses, and offerings of seminars and workshops. Also included in this Series are class rosters, course syllabi, and informational flyers. Series 3. - C:18/4/1 (A74-13) This Series contains correspondence files of the Extension Division Department of Extension Teaching's Conferences and Short Courses (1962-1971). Included in the Series is correspondence concerning departmental operating procedures, subject files, conference budgets, course planning, evaluation, staffing problems, faculty compensation, Board of Curators policies regarding extension courses, staff training sessions, extension courses offered in other states, civil rights legislation as applied to Extension Teaching, federal grant applications, biographical information on Extension personnel, and announcements of courses to be offered. (1 2/3 c.f., 138, 4) Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files.
