Approximately 7,000 FFA members, parents, and guests participated in the various activities. During the third session, 25 of the early State Officers, American Farmers, and National Officers were awarded the Golden Anniversary State Farmer Degree. This group included three of the first State Officers elected in 1928. Golden Anniversary activities were conducted during the 1978-79 school year by the State Association and various chapters. The celebration came to a close during the 51st Convention, April 19-20, 1979, with the preparation and dedication of a time capsule containing packets from various chapters and the State Association. Plans were made at that time to bury the capsule in Sanborn Field on the University campus and for the capsule to be opened during the 75th Convention in 2003. This activity would not have been possible without the support and cooperation of the following friends of the FFA: Dr. Kenneth Larson, Associate Dean, College of Agriculture; Dr. George C. Smith, Acting Dean, College of Agriculture; Ray McClure, Counseling Coordinator, College of Agriculture; Dr. William Upchurch, Associate Professor of Agronomy, College of Agriculture; Dr. Richard Lee, Agricultural Editor, University of Missouri; and Charles Zaring, Parker Funeral Home.
