SPECIFICATIONS FOR ELECTRO-MAGNETIC STRIKING DEVICE WITH AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEM ON SWITZLER HALL BELL 1. LOCATION: Switzler Hall, in which the work described herein is to be installed, is located on the Red Campus of the University of Missouri, in the city of Columbia, Missouri. 2. WORK TO BE DONE: (a) The work to be performed under this contract and in accordance with these specifications and drawings, shall consists of furnishing all labor, tools, materials, and apparatus (Except that designated to be provided by others), required to install an electro- magnetic striking device which will permit both automatic and manual ringing and/or tolling of the existing bell which is suspended in an open tower atop of Switzler Hall. (b) The control system is to be installed in a basement janitor supply room beneath the bell tower; the appropriate vertical distance from the basement floor level to the bell suspension point is 77 feet. Control cabinet shall be positioned within the room so as to give Access to the interior. (c) Modifications to the existing bell to permit installation of the striking devices, and full installation of the electro-magnetic striker, timer controls and related wiring is to be included by this contractor. (d) All phases of the installation work shall be performed by competent workmen experiences in this type of work, under the supervision of a factory engineer. (e) Following completion of the installation, adjusting and testing of the system, the engineer shall demonstrate its proper operation and instruct Owner’s representative in its maintenance. (f) Furnish Owner with printed operating information and repair parts catalog. 3. WORK BY OTHERS (a) The University will provide electric current in the room at the base of the tower at a point designated by the installer. One receptacle for 115 volt, 60 cycle, single phase, AC, 5 ampere capacity, and one receptacle for 15 amp. At 220 volt, 60 Cycle, single phase AC, will be provided. (b) Conduit from control room to bell location will be furnished and installed by Owner, for installation of wiring by installing contractor. 4. DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION: (a) The striking mechanism shall be so Designed as to give a realistic tone and ample volume, with control to give a “Double beat’ to simulate the actual swing of the bell.
