Immediately after the fire of January 1892, which destroyed the buildings, leaving only six columns standing, Gov. Francis called an extra session of the legislature which appropriated funds for the re-erection of those buildings. On his recommendation the state seminary fund had an addition of over $600,000, which sum was re-funded by the federal government.
