October 19, 1940 New Men's Hall Dedicated to Luther Defoe Former Professor Highly Praised for Work With Students Ceremony Held Today Oliver and Middlebush Give Memorial Addresses Allen Oliver, president of the University Alumni Association, in dedicating and naming the new men's residence hall, Luther Marion Defoe Hall this morning, said that Daddy Defoe was for more than forty years the most useful, the most valuable, and the most loved man on the campus of the University. James A. Potter of Jefferson City, a member of the Board of Curators, and alumnus of the University, presided at the dedication ceremony at which Oliver and President Frederick A. Middlebush spoke. Guests at the ceremony included Mrs. Defoe, officers and directors of the Alumni Association, friends of Dr. Defoe and members of the student body.
