Simon to Build Mall for M.U.
The University of Missouri has awarded an $89,200 contract to B.D. Simon Construction company to construct a mall with three decorative pools between the medical center and Rollins street.
But a combination of the mall from Rollins street to Conley avenue has been delayed because funds aren't available for total expenditure of $108,200 to give the medical center a pedestrian connection with the main campus.
Simon's bid includes cost of construction two eight-foot sidewalks with a landscaped area in between. Stairways will ascend the terrace where the mall approaches the medical center area.
Cost of the three decorative pools was provided substantially by a private gift.

Columbia, Mo., Sept. 17. - The University of Missouri, which rejected bids last month because they exceeded available funds, has made a new effort to build a mall to connect the medical center along Stadium road with the rest of the campus. The curators are expected to award a contract under new bids later this month.
The mall is to consists of two 8-foot sidewalks, separated by landscaping.

Only Two Firms Bid on M.U. Mall
B.D. Simon Construction company of Columbia and Continental Construction incorporated of St. Louis, submitted the only bids this morning for construction of the proposed University of Missouri mall.
B.D. Simon company bid $71,900 on base bid number one, which includes the entire mall from Ninth street and Conley avenue to the university medical center; $21,900 on base bid number two, to include only the section from Conley avenue to the North curb of Rollins street; and $52,900 on base bid number three, to include only the section from the North curb of Rollins street to the medical center.
Bids by Simon on the three pools, proposed to be constructed on the Rollins street to medical center section on the 24 foot landscaped way between the two eight-foot sidewalks, were $13,000 for pool number one, $12,000 for pool number two and $11,300 for pool number three.
Continental Construction incorporated offered only a base bid number one of $89,500 on the mall and bids $16,200, $15,300 and $10,400 on the first, second and third pools, respectively.

New Bids on Mall for M.U.
COLUMBIA, mo., Sept. 17 (Special). - The University of Missouri, which rejected initial bids last month because they exceeded funds available, has made a new effort to build a mall to connect the medical center along Stadium road with the rest of the campus.
Bids this time were asked for a complete structure, as well as two segments, and the curators are expected to award a contract later this month.
B.D. Simon Construction Company of Columbia submitted the low base bid, offering to extend the mall from the medical center to Ninth street for $71,900, to build a segment from the center to Rollins street for $52,900, or build a segment from Rollins street to the end of Ninth street at Conley avenue for $21,000.
Three decorative fountains along the mall will cost from $11,300 to $13,000 each.
The mall is to consist of two divided eight-foot sidewalks, separated by landscaping.

Simon Co. Offers Low Bid For M.U. Mall Construction
B.D. Simon Construction Co., was apparent low bidder in the second bid opening for construction of the University Mall between the main campus and the Medical Center. Simon's over-all base bid was $71,900.
The only other bidder today was Continental Construction Co., St. Louis. Continental was the sole bidder in the first opening July 15, when their offer of $84,500 was turned down. Their bid for three pools in July was $36,900.
Continental's base bid today, for the mall from Conley Avenue to the Medical Center, was $89,500. Alternate bids by Continental on three pools were $16,200, $15,300 and $10,400.
Simon's base bid for work from Conley Avenue to Rollins Street was $21,900, and for Rollins Street to the Medical Center $52,900. Continental made only the over-all bid.
Simon's bids on the pools were $13,000, $12,000 and $11,300.

M.U. May Reject $84,500 Mall Bid
COLUMBIA, MO., July 16 (Special). - The University of Missouri likely will reject a bid of $84,500 received yesterday to provide a mall connecting the medical center along Stadium Road with the remainder of the campus.
The bid was in excess of estimates. The university had planned construction with some of its general funds, augmented by gifts and grants.
Continental Construction, Inc., of St. Louis submitted the only bid on the project, which includes two lanes of sidewalks separated by a 24-foot landscaped area. Alternates had been asked on three decorative pools, which would cost an additional $36,900.
The mall is to extend from Conley avenue, on which is located the university administration building and library, through a cleared area on Allen place, across a physical education play field adjacent to the old Rollins football field, and up some terraces to the medical center. The decorative pools were to be between the medical center and Rollins street.

Plans for M.U. Mall Authorized
COLUMBIA, MO., April 24 (Special). - Architects have been instructed by University of Missouri curators to complete plans for a mall that will connect the medical center on Stadium road with the central campus.
The mall, consisting of two eight-foot sidewalks separated by 24 feet of landscaped area, will extend from Ninth street to a court area to be added at the medical science building.
Until the mall is completed, pedestrian traffic between the medical center and the university proper will continue by way of city streets and dirt footpaths across practice fields as no sidewalk connections exist.

BID FOR NEW MISSOURI U. MALL ABOVE ESTIMATES
COLUMBIA, Mo. - A bid of $84,500 was above estimates for a mall planned at the University of Missouri to connect the medical center with other parts of the university.
Continental Construction, Inc., St. Louis, made the only offer, asking an additional $36,900 if three decorative pools are incorporated.
The mall is to consist of two sidewalks divided by a 24-foot landscaped area. It will extend from Conley avenue, on which both Jesse Hall and the library are located, directly southward, across physical education fields around the gymnasium area to the Medical Center on Stadium road. The center can be reached by pedestrians now only through use of fields or city streets.
