St. Louis, May 29th, 1900. Rev. John D. Vincil City. Dear Sir & Brother :- At the last meeting of the St. Louis Prohibition Union of Christian Men the gift of $5,000.00 which has been proffered to the State University by Mr. Adolphus Busch of this city was discussed and the following resolutions were passed. Resolved:- That we call upon our good Brother Vincil, President of said Board, with every confidence, to exert his best efforts to have this proposed gift rejected and the name of our beloved State saved from the shame and disgrace of such complicity with the awfully iniquitous business. Resolved:- That we urge all Christian people in both pulpit and pew to at once enter a vigorous protest by personal word and letter and every other means in their power against this proposed additional partnership of state and liquor business. We trust that, in the name of the higher purity of our public institutions of learning, who by accepting gifts from such sources, are estopped from antagonizing the liquor traffic which is the source of such unbounded evil, your Board will decline the gift. There is blood on the money. Yours fraternally E. E. Israel, Secy.
