Shirky, Director of the Office of Technical Education Services (1963-1965). Historical Note: Printing publications for the College of Agriculture was started by Dean Sam Shirky in 1934. The printing program remained under the College of Agriculture until 1962, when its name was changed to Technical Education Services and it was transferred under the authority of the MU President's Office. In 1969 Technical Educational Services became a UM-System operation with printing facilities at all four UM-System campuses. In 1971, when Sam Shirky retired, Technical Education Services came under the direction of the UM-System Purchasing Office. The Office of Technical Education Services became University Printing Services in 1980. Series Descriptions: Series 1 - UW:4/171/1 (A76-69) This Series contains administrative correspondence created and received by Sam B. Shirky, Director of the Office of Technical Education Services (1963-1965). The correspondence in this Series relates to such matters as requests for University publications, charges for photo service work, updating the university telephone directory, campus mail delivery and distribution problems, printing and layout of forms and stationary, paper and supply bids, purchasing and maintaining printing equipment, and maintaining the equipment inventories. (1/2 c.f., UMLD1) Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files.
